Building Hauora Resilience in Tairāwhiti! 💪🏽🏆

On Monday we held our very first Hauora Wānanga! We were stoked to have former NRL Player - Kevin Locke fly down to connect with our tauira at Te Waha O Rerekohu Area School in Te Araroa 🙌🏽

Throughout the day we covered the foundations of nutrition, goal setting, and the importance of having a clear vision for your future. These kaupapa were brought to life through Kevin sharing his own journey - the highs, the adversities, and what it takes to become a professional athlete in Aotearoa. 🏉

Extremely grateful to have partnered with Ngāti Porou Oranga to make this kaupapa a reality! ✨

Massive mihi to Kevin for giving his time, to our awesome support team - Taine, Whai & Sam, and to our incredible Rerekohu whānau for the beautiful kai and manaakitanga.

We’ve been quietly doing the mahi behind the scenes, and we’re excited to share that after operating under another entity, we are now officially running as our own registered charitable trust! 🎉

While I’m still facilitating and managing as a one man band, I’m backed by an incredible Board of Trustees who bring strength, guidance and new energy to our kaupapa. Huge mihi to Tunui, Sam, Tamihana and Wi-Luke for your commitment and support 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽

As a new small trust, we’re taking a steady and thoughtful approach, making sure everything we do is delivered to a high standard while we continue to grow. 🌱

Kia ora whānau, due to ongoing heavy rain expected across the coast this week which impacts the delivery and safety of our programme, and out of respect for whānau affected by recent tragedies - our holiday programme has been postponed.

This year has been a big year for myself in terms of coaching lol. Started with under 17s, then I started training and coaching .nz under 16s that went away to Christchurch and last but not least player coach for our top side whalers team.

In terms of coaching younger grades what people need to understand is that I coach these teams from a place of love. I try to give our younger people an opportunity to experience a game that I hold so close to my heart. I don’t do this for any other reason than rugby league gave me an awesome life and with a little hard work it could do the same for so many of our youngsters.

Turned down a couple of awesome opportunities towards the end of this year because I’m tired 😂 but it’s nice to have a break. Time to put all my extra time in to getting fit again 😂.

This week at our schools, we introduced the MAMBA MENTALITY 💪🏽 it was awesome to see our rangatahi engaged at what it takes to be GREAT and become inspired in wanting to be the best versions of themselves. 🙏🏽
