Tonight's exercise had the team taking up various roles in the early stages of an emergency scenario. Based on the information gathered they played out coordinated reconnaissance, triage, and "setting up" a CDC (Civil Defence Centre)
Lessons learned included: radio etiquette, sharing important details, and that emergencies often start messy before they improve.
Great work and it's great to see these skills coming to life!

A busy night going through a lot of connected skills! Ladder safety, belaying, and stretcher knots. Always return to the basics until they become muscle memory!

Tonight we worked on minor first aid scenarios and did round robins with random injuries! It was a good chance to work on quick thinking, patient communication, and how to do first aid with a small team. Our new recruits did a great job in unfamiliar territory and our full team members were awesome at passing along their knowledge!

A fast-paced night working on locating and triaging casualties. Our squads were faced with a realistic scenario including missing information, close quarters, and rapid changes! They not only located all 44 patients but did great work suggesting appropriate first aid.

Tonight we visited the Christchurch EOC to see how we can respond to a natural disaster. We then went through some of the ways that our team members can prepare themselves, their families, and their communities. It was a lot of great information and a wonderful chance to ask all those questions!

First night on the ladders! Great job team!

Last night our team manager and former team leader suffered a deeply personal loss. Jan's son Matthew tragically passed away after a car accident on Thursday evening.

Our hearts go out to their family at this painful time. He was a beloved son, father, partner, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend. As a donor, his spirit lives on as this generous decision has changed the lives of 6 other families.

We ask for peace and privacy for their family at this time, our thoughts are with them.

Our newest members were right into it this week! We buddied up and got into mapping some of the access tunnels under the Christchurch Town Hall. Then despite low ceilings, obstructed pathways, and head torches "disabled" our teams safely extracted our 3 "injured" team members!
Great work, great attitude, and great to have you with us!
