NZ-RT11 is a Nationally Registered Light Rescue Response Team based in Christchurch New Zealand. NZ-RT11 was one of the first teams on location during both the September 2010 and Feburary 2011
Christchurch Earthquakes and have provided Team members for several out of Region Deployments.

Last nights training had us out in the community practicing our reconnaissance using the QuickCapture app. As squads we moved around our assigned zone noting relevant features and practicing radio skills. The command unit kept track of our information and dolled out spot prizes for finding some "hidden" features.
When running smoothly and with trained team members the app allows us to quickly note areas of interest, damage, or hazards. It's a great way to keep the people up top in the loop and get our teams information where it needs to be!

We were lucky to have some visitors from RT21 (Selwyn) come out to lead our training. It was a beautiful day and we're very grateful for the change in forecast!

Last night we worked on ladder slides - a quick way of moving a lot of patients either up or down a ladder. What you might notice is that alongside our trusty Fred's we also had live casualties! A local Ranger group joined us for the night to learn about what we do and then were offered the chance to have a "ride" in a stretcher.
We had some incredibly brave young women who experienced what is is like to be moved up a ladder and then lowered down the side of a shipping container, all while safely contained in our stretchers. We are grateful for the trust they placed in us and hope it wasn't too bumpy a ride!

It has been an incredibly busy time for our team (and many others around Aotearoa New Zealand) as we have been preparing for re-accreditation. This is a regular "test" where we show off our skills to prove that, when we are most needed, our volunteers can be relied upon. Our management team have put in countless hours behind the scenes, and we are so appreciative of their efforts. Our whole team has shown their dedication in preparing and training consistently. The results speak for themselves, we are so happy and proud of the outcomes and ready to keep building and growing!

A team photo from our social meet after accreditation weekend as well as a heartwarming moment with our leadership. Here is a message from our new Team Leader to our previous.

I want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank Corey for everything he has given to the team during his time as Team Leader.

I have learnt a huge amount from watching him lead, particularly about the responsibility that comes with the role, the importance of supporting the people around you, and staying focused on what is best for the team. His experience, guidance and willingness to share what he has learnt have helped shape my own approach to leadership more than he probably realises.

As I step into the Team Leader role, I know there will still be plenty for me to learn, but I am grateful to be building on the foundation Corey has helped create. I have a lot of respect for the time, effort and commitment he has put into RT11, often behind the scenes and without recognition.

Thank you, Corey, for your leadership, your support and everything you have taught me. Your contribution to the team is genuinely appreciated, and I hope you can look back proudly on the difference you have made.

For this week's training we were lucky enough to have some members of RT21 - Selwyn, come out and run a training. We went over river/water saftey first, then trying on our gear and making sure the team know their sizes. Logistics done, we practiced some skills that we wouldn't usually use as well as our throw-bagging. It was a great opportunity to learn skills even if we don't use them as it gives a better understanding of the rescue environment.
