🌱✨ The Port Phillip Emergency Climate Action Network (PECAN), a coalition of local community groups driving urgent climate action across the City of Port Phillip, recently hosted another session in their bi-monthly seminar series.
At this event, Plant Based Treaty campaigner Sheena Chhabra presented on the urgent need to transform our food systems through the Plant Based Treaty.
Around 15 passionate people from the local community and PECAN attended. The energy in the room was inspiring, with thoughtful questions and discussions showing just how much our community cares about climate action.
The presentation introduced the Plant Based Treaty, a global campaign calling on individuals, organisations, and cities to create bottom-up pressure for governments to negotiate a companion treaty to the Paris Agreement. Attendees learned about the Treaty’s three principles - Relinquish, Redirect, Restore - with a focus on practical actions cities can take right now, and how local members can advocate for the Treaty's Redirect principle at council level to shift resources toward healthier, sustainable plant-based food systems.
The Q&A that followed was lively, with lots of curiosity and engagement. 🌍💚
A big thank you to PECAN for hosting such an important conversation and to everyone who took part. Events like this remind us that local action truly matters - every discussion brings us closer to meaningful change.
