New Brighton Business and Landowners Association

New Brighton Business and Landowners Association A collective of businesses and Landowners seeking to rejuvenate New Brighton for the benefit of our community and stakeholders.

The NBBLA promotes New Brighton as vibrant coastal asset for people to play and prosperity to thrive in the east. The vision is that we initiate and inform an ambitious long term transformation of New Brighton as a vibrant anchor village with character that capitalises on the distinctive assets and natural endowments in the district to achieve long term, sustainable, economic, social, cultural and

environmental prosperity. A key to the recovery of the eastern suburbs is a well‐planned, strong, vibrant and innovative seaboard of linked communities. A reinvented “Destination Brighton” that entices investors, home owners, workers and Visitors to explore, live and work alongside the beaches, parks, estuary and river: a tourism, hospitality and events hub, a “silicon beach” attracting young, entrepreneurial IT businesses, a unique niche retail centre, and an aquatic playground. Planning for the eastern suburbs depends upon such an inspirational and powerful statement to firmly anchor the eastern end of the Avon corridor and to attract people down this conduit from the city centre. It provides the end point of the lifeline along the river corridor upon which the recovery of the rest of the east depends. A revitalised economy along the eastern seaboard will provide the stimulus for employment, small business and lifestyle opportunities that will reverberate throughout the east. To achieve this it is acknowledged by both the communities of the east and Christchurch City Council that there is a need to enhance and extend New Brighton’s capability’s, and hence the establishment of the NBBLA. We seek to include concepts which can realise New Brighton’s potential as a destination seaside village in the context of the greater Brighton area. Our planning framework will seek to develop an understanding and expression of the most appropriate ways to develop the spatial, cultural, environmental and commercial layers of this recovering community and provide a pathway for realising real and galvanising change. It will build on existing community feedback and the Council’s draft Master Plan for New Brighton in partnership with those communities and the Council. The planning framework is to be developed as a cornerstone component of the NBBLA’s programme of projects to develop an integrated community and private industry plan for this eastern suburb.
