Meet our newest member of the Cooks Collective Manal (pictured right) who will be cooking a delicious Palestinian dinner at the Cooks Collective Cafe this Friday.

Manal is Palestinian and was born in Jordan. Twelve years ago she moved to New Zealand.

She loves to make Middle Eastern sweets such as baklava and kunafa, and is currently studying baking at Ara. Manal's husband is also a baker, and an expert trained in his home country of Algeria in baking traditional French-style pastries and cakes.

Manal joined Share Kai because she wanted to be part of a supportive food community where people share skills, culture, and kindness through cooking. She hopes to learn and contribute her Middle Eastern food traditions while building something meaningful with others.

Come and enjoy Manal's Palestinian home cooking with us - her basbousa cake with cream filling is already legendary!

We're excited to see you this Friday for Share Kai in Solidarity with Palestine!

Our wonderful chef Doaa from .Kitchen has chosen a special menu for everyone - Kubbeh is a complicated dish to prepare with three stages, involving preparing the dumpling dough, stuffing and rolling, and cooking. Shish Barak has a shape like a small hat. All take expert craftsmanship. Usually a dish reserved for special occasions and gatherings. Doaa learnt to cook these dishes from her mother and we're really excited to share them with you all.

We're preparing to cater for a very big crowd and we’re hoping to welcome our largest number to date. We encourage our diners to arrive throughout the night from 5.30 - 7.30pm to spread out the dining time and ensure we can seat everyone. We'll have dine in and takeaway options.

Join us for a lovely evening celebrating Palestinian cuisine, culture and solidarity.

🕠5.30 - 8pm Friday June 5th.
💳Door sales, $30 meals, $5 drinks, no tickets required. Cash and PayWave accepted.

Feel like a warm bowl of Jhol Momo (Nepali dumplings in soup)?

Jhol Momo is a bowl of Nepali momos, steamed moon shaped dumplings stuffed with chicken or veges, served in a smooth tasty soup of tomato, sesame, peanuts and warming spices.

Momos are native to the Himalayan regions of Nepal and Tibet, but are also a popular street food in the neighboring countries of Bhutan, Bangladesh and India. Jhol Momo are a popular dish when the weather starts to turn cold in the Himalayas.

To welcome winter to Ōtautahi Christchurch Tulasha from our Cooks Collective is making bowls of steaming Jhol Momo this Friday. Homemade momos are one of Tulasha's specialities, she can fold several in one minute!

Join us for a bowl for lunch this Friday 12 - 1.30pm June 5th at the Cooks Collective Café at WEA Canterbury Workers' Educational Association 59 Gloucester St.
