Canterbury Resilience Foundation

The Canterbury Resilience Foundation is a charitable trust (CC56595) established to provide a forum for groups within Canterbury and elsewhere in New Zealand, focussed on the youth affected by the events in Christchurch in March 2019. It works to:

· Facilitate the exchange of ideas and information regarding issues that have resulted (both physical, mental and spiritual) after the events and to

ü promote joint action and cooperation regarding common concerns,

ü bring different communities together to promote inclusion, safety, understanding, and community harmony,

ü work with communities impacted by traumatic events and bridge cultural gaps by working with different support networks available and providing education about what is on offer.

· Offer practical support to youth among refugees/asylum seekers in Canterbury and help them adjust to life in New Zealand with a particular focus on the youth affected by the events of March 2019 (whether their families were directly affected by the events, or not), in particular by

ü organising sports/recreational, educational and cultural activities and festivals to empower the youth of Canterbury,

ü organising programs that encourage the health and wellbeing of the youth.

· Promote public awareness and a greater understanding of refugee/asylum seeker issues (particularly those which affect the youth) by national and local government, and private and public institutions, and the general public of Canterbury.

· Act as mediators between agencies, schools, police and in particular the youth from communities affected by the shootings, to ensure greater cultural understanding and focus on what problems are faced when providing services to the different communities of Canterbury and work on developing solutions for these issues for the benefit of those communities.
