Today, 15 August 2026, marks the 80th Independence Day of India, a day to remember the journey, sacrifices and achievements that have shaped a proud nation. 🧡🤍💚

We were honoured to begin the celebrations with a Flag Raising Ceremony, coming together as a community to pay tribute to India and celebrate the rich culture, heritage and values that continue to connect us across generations and across oceans.

From India to Aotearoa New Zealand, our heritage travels with us, through our families, our stories, our traditions and the contributions we make to our communities.

✨ 80th year of independence, history, resilience and progress.

Wishing everyone a very Happy 80th Indian Independence Day!

Only one mor sleep to go!!!

Bula Cantabrians!
Join this Saturday in Christchurch for the 147th Fiji Girmit Remembrance Day commemorations, proudly hosted by our Christchurch Chapter in Canterbury.

From India to Fiji to Aotearoa – our stories continue.

📜 What is Girmit?

“Girmit” comes from the word “Agreement” - the contract that bound over 60,000 Indian labourers who were brought to Fiji between 1879 and 1916 to work on sugar plantations under British colonial rule. Despite hardship and false promises, these Girmitiyas persevered, built communities, and their descendants carried that resilient spirit across the Pacific to Aotearoa.

Join us as we honour their legacy with an evening of stories, culture and community.
