🎤😂 **What a fantastic night at Hornby Toastmasters!**

Last night we held our **Humorous Speech Contest** and **Evaluation Contest**, and what a night it was. Three entertaining speeches and four insightful evaluations gave members plenty of laughs, learning, and inspiration.

Congratulations to **Lucy (1st), Gaylene (2nd) and Isabel (3rd)** in the Humorous Speech Contest, and to **Greg (1st), Gaylene (2nd), Jo (3rd) and Michael (4th)** in the Evaluation Contest. 🏆

A special thank you to **Dinuka Gunawardena** for joining us and presenting the test speech for the Evaluation Contest. Dinuka's engaging speech provided our contestants with the perfect opportunity to demonstrate their listening, analytical, and evaluation skills.

Congratulations also to everyone who took part. Stepping onto the contest stage takes courage, preparation, and commitment, and every contestant helped make the evening a success.

Toastmasters is about more than public speaking. It's about growing confidence, developing leadership skills, supporting one another, and having fun along the way. Last night's contests showcased all of those qualities.

If you'd like to become a more confident speaker, improve your communication skills, or challenge yourself in a friendly and supportive environment, visitors are always welcome at Hornby Toastmasters.

For our last Hornby Toastmasters evening in August, we shared a fantastic night of friendly competition, creativity, and fellowship with our friends from Oaklands Toastmasters.
The evening featured imaginative Table Topics, entertaining Tall Tales, and a lively debate on the topic “That Artificial Intelligence is a Threat to Humanity.” Both clubs fielded strong teams and delivered outstanding performances throughout the night.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated, took on meeting roles, adjudicated, and helped organise the event. Congratulations to both clubs on a memorable evening of learning, laughter, and speaking excellence, and a special congratulations to Team Hornby for retaining the trophy! 🏆🎉

🌏 Helen Takes Us on a Journey Through International Student Life in Christchurch 🌏
For our next speech, Helen shared her remarkable experiences hosting international students and helping them settle into life in Christchurch.
Over the years, Helen has welcomed around 60 international students into her home and community. Through her speech, she gave us a fascinating glimpse into the many reasons students come to New Zealand, the challenges they face when adapting to a new culture, and the diverse personalities that make each student's journey unique.
From homesickness and cultural differences to personal growth and newfound confidence, Helen highlighted the important role that kindness, support, and understanding play in helping students feel at home.
