A friend asked for views on the meaning of life, in relation to music. These are my thoughts:
Life is just chemistry. Of carbon, through the long stable bond chains it drives. This is why so much carbon has reburied itself, out of reactive harm's way, through the history of life forms. (Until some species 'bright spark' goes about rearranging evolution. Beware our fossil future.) Other chemicals make crystals though, other kinds of lattice, so the vibrational 'sing' of steel we hear (an example in music) no doubt has parallels we cannot hear but must presume present and more significant. Harmonising with the universe would be the wisdom goal. Hence for us, in our frequency range, most music vibration sound locates in the organic (carbon) sphere, e.g. skin or gut drum heads or strings and wood instruments, or vocal chords within windpipes, or just wind through the trees. So life has a purpose, a direction if you like, as the voice of carbon. We need to learn to listen better, to respect its domain and extremely marginal context. 02c Kia ora

"The criminal underworld" is a term well known. Much less so, the criminal over-world. The most powerful gang in the land hides unstated, amongst the legal fraternity. Regulating themselves, we are told, this 'professional' sub-group knows no limitation. No scruples, no rules, no safety at all for a general public treated as fodder. Disproportionate wealth gathered through abuse of authority and trust. Systematic fleecing formalised in 1840, where we live; land law underpinned by lack of morals, ethics or due cause calls a whole nation and its government into real question: "New Zealand, one of the least corrupt countries on Earth" ? - Yeah, right.
