In winter, we spend more time indoors with our pēpi.

Keeping your home smokefree helps protect their breathing and keeps them well.

Today, and everyday, let's create smokefree spaces for pēpi.

We want to congratulate Sam Johnson on his well-deserved recognition in the 2026 King's Birthday Honours as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit. 👏

Sam is a familiar friend to us, having served as a Plunket Foundation member and, most recently, as a face representing Plunket to families across New Zealand.

Beyond his connection to us, Sam has given so much to this country, from founding the Student Volunteer Army, mobilising thousands of volunteers in response to disasters, and championing the role of young people in building stronger communities.

Our warmest congratulations to Sam on this thoroughly deserved honour! 🎉

Cradle cap is a super common skin condition in newborns - especially those 3 weeks to 12 weeks old. While it may look uncomfortable, it usually isn't itchy and doesn’t bother pēpi.

Our website has lots more advice about cradle cap. But if you're ever worried and want to talk, our nurses at PlunketLine are only a phone call away at 0800 933 922. We're here 24/7 💜

Winter is coming ❄️☃️

It's important our little ones stay warm this winter, with clothing that is made from natural fibres like cotton and wool to help keep their body temperature even.

Cambridge Plunket is kindly seeking donations of knitted booties, vests, beanies, cardigans or jumpers for our babies and infants.

If you are a keen knitter or part of a local knitting group, and would like to help, we'd love to hear from you 🩷🧡🩵

Today we recognise Te Rā Mokopuna - Safe Sleep Day.

Our National Educator and PlunketLine nurse talk about all things safe sleep, especially as we move into the colder winter months.

In their chat below they cover:
Why sleep-related risk can increase during the colder months
The foundations of a safe sleep space, and why it matters
Small changes whānau can make tonight to help keep pēpi safer

Did you know capsules are designed to keep pēpi on the correct angle to breathe safely while they’re in the car? That angle changes when the capsule is removed, making them unsafe for sleep.

If your child has fallen asleep on the journey, don’t leave them in the capsule – transfer them to a safe sleep space when you arrive.

On long journeys it’s important to stop at least every 2 hours and take pēpi out of the capsule for a stretch and a wriggle.

If you’re not sure if your capsule, car seat or other child restraint is correctly installed, reach out to your nearest child restraint technician for advice. You can find out more on our website: https://www.plunket.org.nz/being-a-parent/preparing-for-your-baby/car-seats/about-child-restraints/
