Cambridge Toy Library We are a nonprofit, committee led community initiative who offers affordable educational toy rentals. What is a Toy Library? Who are we?

Were open Tuesday 3pm-4:30pm, Wednesday 9:30am-11am and Saturday 9am-12pm. Play is important to all children and toys are a major element in helping to play and learn. A toy library welcomes children, their families and caregivers to come and borrow well designed toys, games, puzzles and equipment, which are made available at minimal cost. Toy libraries operate along similar lines to public libraries. Members borrow toys for a fixed time period, for a small fee depending on the toy. Toy libraries cater mainly for pre-school children. Cambridge Toy Library is a member of the Toy Library Federation of NZ, who act as an adviser on all aspects of running a toy library. The "Toy Library" is a non profit initiative. We are an Incorporated Society that is run by a committee of volunteers. Our aim is to provide access to a wide range of toys, games and puzzles for children in the community, from birth through to age 10. A range of toys for special needs children is also available. The Concept behind the Toy Library

*A place with the opportunity to interact with other families.

🌟 What a wonderful Te Wiki o te Reo Māori! 🌟

This week we counted, played shops, discovered new toy words, talked about our feelings, created with shapes and colours—and finished with a special toy treasure hunt! 🧸🧩🚗

We hope our Cambridge Toy Library whānau have enjoyed discovering new kupu and finding simple ways to bring te reo Māori into everyday play.

The week may be over, but the kōrero doesn’t have to stop. Even using one new kupu each day helps te reo Māori grow and thrive. ❤️

Today we’re combining creativity, play and te reo Māori!

Encourage your tamariki to create a picture using blocks, magnetic tiles, playdough or colourful paper. As you create together, practise naming the shapes and colours:

🔵 Porowhita — circle
🔺 Tapatoru — triangle
🟥 Tapawhā — square

❤️ Whero — red
💛 Kōwhai — yellow
💚 Kākāriki — green
💙 Kikorangi — blue

Try asking:

🎨 He aha te tae? — What colour is it?
🔷 He aha te āhua? — What shape is it?

Today’s phrase is:

Kei te pēhea koe? – How are you?

Talking about feelings is a wonderful way for tamariki to learn and use te reo Māori in everyday life.

Ask your tamariki “Kei te pēhea koe?” and invite them to choose a feeling from the picture.

They might answer:

😊 Kei te harikoa ahau – I am happy
😴 Kei te ngenge ahau – I am tired
😢 Kei te pōuri ahau – I am sad
😨 Kei te mataku ahau – I am scared
😠 Kei te riri ahau – I am angry

Try making the different facial expressions together or acting out a feeling for someone else to guess!
