A message from MSD:

A friendly reminder that the Winter Energy Payment will end on 1 October.

For people paid weekly:
The payment in the week beginning 28 September will have the last full Winter Energy Payment included. The payment in the week beginning 5 October will have four days of WEP included. The first payment with no WEP included is the week beginning 12 October.

For NZ Super/Veteran’s Pension clients:
The payment in the week beginning 21 September (this week) will have the last full Winter Energy Payment included. The payment in the week beginning 5 October will have nine days of WEP included. The first payment with no WEP included is the week beginning 19 October.

Power redirections and extra support:
If someone is redirecting part of their benefit to pay for power costs, they may want to review their redirection as their usage changes as winter eases.

Winter Energy Payment and Confirming Your Circumstances review:
You might be aware we’ve recently had issues with some payments being suspended during the introduction of Confirming Your Circumstances reviews, including the Winter Energy Payment for some people getting NZ Super/Veteran’s Pension.
We apologise to everyone affected. We’ve conducted a review into how this happened, which you can read on our website: Review into the suspension of some payments - Work and Income.

We know this continues to be a challenging time for many people. If anyone you’re in contact with is concerned about how they’ll manage when the Winter Energy Payment ends, please encourage them to get in touch with us via MyMSD, or phoning 0800 559 009 (working age), 08008 552 002 (seniors), or by popping in to make an appointment. Everyone’s situation is different and we’re always happy to talk through what support might be available.
