Meet Alex, a regular at both Bike Hub Forrest Hill and Bike Hub Queens Wharf! 🚲

Alex (pictured here with our hub coordinator Steve Cable) lives in Narrow Neck and has been picking up bikes off Facebook Marketplace to do up for his kids to ride. He's been coming to our hubs along the way for help and advice.

In Alex's words: a lot of people are scared of working on bikes because they don't know what they're doing and worry about getting it wrong — but at the hub, there's no judgement, just support and the confidence to give it a go. He remembers stripping a road bike down to pieces, putting it back together, and getting stuck when it wasn't quite working — so he headed to Queens Wharf, where the team helped him sort it out.

School holidays are here — why not spend them exploring a new way to get around as a family?

Meet Michael van Staveren and his family, who recently trialled one of our Yuba cargo bikes through Go Ebike Loans and by the end of the two weeks, were completely hooked!

The CRL had its first weekday morning rush this week — and naturally, someone had to test whether biking could keep up! 🚲🚄

😄"I have to admit I did want to win this on behalf of the biking community so I got my race face on," says one determined rider, who kicked things off with an easy 13km ride to the start near Glen Eden — "the third best Glen in Auckland, and probably the best Eden."

Our Bike Hubs are part of Auckland Transport's wider network of bike hubs across Auckland, offering free tool access, maintenance advice, and second-hand bikes and parts — helping our communities learn the skills to service and repair their own rides, for free.

Swipe through for a few words to take with you next time you're at the hub ☺️

Wīra (wheels), mekameka (chain), pōtae mārō (helmet), hānara (handlebar) — and the word for the whole thing: paihikara, bicycle.

Try at least one of them out loud this week.
