Sunday 09:00am Good morning. No reports of damage locally, and just a few minor blocked drains. All calm at the moment in the eye of the storm - not too much more rain to come but should get pretty windy again this afternoon. No change as yet to the Strong Wind Warning - Orange which is valid through to 6pm.

*Cyclone update*
The MetService's warnings for our area remain at Orange in their 8:48pm update, with little sign of an upgrade to red. It's looking like we won't need to open any Hubs tonight. Let's review in the morning. If anything changes, we'll figure it out at that time. Sleep well everyone! 😴

10/04/2026

Cyclone Vaianu - DPESG members are in preparation mode ahead of the arrival of potentially very stormy weather from tonight.

We encourage everyone to take heed of all the warnings and advisories on how best to prepare and keep their family and property safe. Check our own Readiness Plan too (linked pinned above).

If any of our Community Emergency Hubs activate and "stand up" as a venue for help, resource, refuge etc, that will be announced here and elsewhere.

Deliveries of our initial information leaflet have started!
The leaflets give the key information about what to do and where to get more information, including the full Devonport Peninsula Emergency Readiness Plan.

We've been chipping away at groups of streets over recent weeks and expect to have delivered all of the leaflets within the next couple of weeks or so. So keep an eye on your letterbox!

We are pleased to bring you our "Devonport Peninsula Emergency Readiness Plan".

The extreme weather events of early last year prompted this Plan to be developed by local volunteers, with the help and cooperation of a wide range of contributors, including Auckland Emergency Management. The Plan is a very localised practical guide to help everyone prepare for emergency events and to deal with them safely.

A key initiative has been to establish a number of "Emergency Support Hubs" able to provide practical support to those who may need it, and a network of people able to swing them into action as needed. Have a good read of the attached document, and feel free to share the link to others!

Over the coming weeks we'll be publicising the Plan more widely, and (funding allowing!) make hard copies available for those who need them. You may well find a flyer in your letterbox at some point :-)
