This moment was special.

Haka tautoko is about support. To stand with people, lifting the kaupapa, and give energy back to those who have just performed.

To hear the audience and our whānau respond to us with Tika Tonu after our performance was powerful. It reminded us that kapa haka is not just something you watch. It is something you feel and carry together.

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who stood with us.

Today, Te Tūhononga Ki Rāwhiti had the privilege of helping kick start Te Wiki o te Reo Māori at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.

Matua Adrian, Papa Rodney, Fabz, MistyBlue, Big Zaeben and Matua Hakopa represented the rōpū, teaching waiata and haka to the public from 2pm to 3pm.

The crowd participation was solid. A lot of people who joined us at the start stayed right through to the end, the pūtātara went off, and we managed to teach both items within the time we had.

Big mihi to everyone who came through, gave it a go, and and to Auckland Art Gallery who helped carry the kaupapa 🙏🏾

Tītahi, a leader of Ngāti Whātua, prophesied that major change was coming to the Waitematā Harbour region, with Rangitoto standing in the distance.
