Last night at Club we learnt "Waternish Tangle" - named for a peninsula on the Isle of Skye - where 'Tangle' is a reference to the local seaweed...and learning "The Targe" formation, we found ourselves in our own four person/two couple "Tangle"...

Katherine Uren put on a fun filled evening of dances for our Party Night at Innes Scottish Country Dance Club, Auckland
Dances included: Fish & Chips, Posties Jig, EH37AF, Borrowdale Exchange, Panmure Roundabout, Cornrigs, Autumn Posy, Wedding Medley, Domino 5, Farewell to Belfour Rd and more. Thanks to the club for their support and Katherine for her briefing to make such a successful evening. AlsoThank you for so many dancers for joining in.

We had a fantastic advanced class yesterday (Sept26) held at Forest Hill Primary on the North Shore of Auckland, sponsored by the SCD Northland Auckland District. Kathryn Deroles, our teacher, worked as a facilitor and guide, getting us to think about what we were doing: posture, body, as well as where we needed to be. It gave us a lot more freedom to think and learn. The sets, with this newfound responsibility, jumped into gear working well as teams and support.
A great selection of dances, here are a few: Double Hoopers Jig, Bees of Maggieknockater, Reel of the Puffin.....
Kathryn also got us to be more aware of our feet and how much we take for granted and what potential we overlook i.e individual toe movement and how they support and look after us in balance.

Kathryn Deroles will be one of our teachers at the NZ SCD Summer School being held in Auckland 28 Dec to 5 Jan @ Waipuna Lodge.

Another Dance on the Innes Ball programme this Saturday is "A Trip to the Drakensberg" - a mountain range in eastern South Africa....lets go!

Innes Ball - Saturday Sept 19th - St Aidan's - earlier time of 5.30pm - we hope you can make it!
Theme is "Location, Location, Location" and first dance will be "Panmure Roundabout"....

Last week at Club we danced "The Saint John River", named for this river in New Brunswick, Canada. Formations mimicked the Reversing Falls found at high spring tide. "Our" river did meander a bit.... maybe a few wrong turns.....

This week at Club we danced "Nordfjordeid", a 32 bar Jig named for a little town in Norway. Dance dates from 2017 and was devised for a Viking themed Ceilidh held by the Johnsonville Club. Creator Rod Downey spent a week at a conference in the town (population just over 3,000).

"Muckle Flugga" was a great warmup at Monday nights Ceilidh this week - named for a small rocky island in the Shetlands.
