Our walled garden and croquet lawn provide a perfect setting for outdoor weddings, with the immaculately kept gardens providing a beautiful backdrop for that special photo shoot. Art Classes

Performing arts gives children and teens the opportunity to have fun while gaining a sense of achievement. There are no auditions required, only enthusiasm and lots of energy. Art Exhibitions
Monthly exhibitions by local, national and international artists are held throughout the year. A small display of local crafts and artworks can be found for sale in the main foyer.

Threads of Nathan Homestead - these portraits capture a small handful of people with a connection to the Homestead, whether through family, growing up locally, or occupying and visiting the space over the past few decades. Together, these stories represent the living heritage of the Homestead.

The Manurewa Potters Club has been a part of the fabric of Nathan Homestead for many years. The Potters Club started in the garages of founding members in 1974, but eventually moved to the Homestead in 1979. Nathan Homestead was able to offer them a space that accommodated how big the group was becoming - and the Potters Club remains thriving today. Bringing together individuals passionate about their own pottery practice, Manurewa Potters Club allows their members to connect and learn off each other - all while still allowing each person’s own style and flair to shine. As club member Ruth remarks, you can always tell who made each piece, because everyone has their own signature styles. Photographed within their making space, the Manurewa Potters Club are an example of the impressive ways our local communities are able to express themselves, when given the right space to create and connect with each other.

Growing up just streets away from Nathan Homestead, Tracy Toeke’s earliest memories have been backdropped by the Homestead. Living in such close proximity to the Homestead, Tracy’s fondest memories include playing in the gardens as a young girl with her brothers, walking through the Homestead’s fields to get to school, and buying crafts made by the Manurewa Potters Club with gold coins on a Saturday morning. Photographed in the fields that she grew up in and around, she describes Nathan Homestead as a gift that the Nathan family have offered for the local communities. From the late 1960s to today, Nathan Homestead has been a place of connection and grounding for Tracy. Her hope for Nathan Homestead is that it continues to be a magical, well-loved place for locals, just like it has been throughout her childhood and adulthood.

Wendy, Isaac & Robin Nathan grew up around Nathan Homestead and Manurewa at different points in their lives. Wendy and Robin remember being impressed by the grandeur of the house, going through their grandmother’s cupboards and sliding down the bannisters of the stairs. Walking through the Homestead, they are able to recall different stories of their own memories, or shared with them by their grandparents - anecdotes about the fire that happened in the early 1920s, fascinations with the water tower out in the bush, and memories of attending the old Nathan Homestead kindergarten. One particular notable family memory was Wendy’s birth in the Homestead. Wendy was born in the Drawing Room, where her and Robin are photographed, alongside Wendy’s son Isaac. While their own family history is entangled with Nathan Homestead, they also share that today, they feel it is the community who really “bring warmth and life” to the Homestead.
