The early morning workouts are just the beginning.

Every Wednesday, after the 6am PT session, 36 Manurewa students sit down together for something just as important — mentorship. Real conversations, real guidance and real investment in who these young people are becoming.

Now in its 8th year the Bluelight JAM Programme is not just building fitter young people. It is building more confident, more connected and more resilient members of our community. And it starts before most of us have had our first coffee.

This programme runs with the support of Auckland Council, the Manurewa Business Association, Love Somebody Charitable Trust and our local high schools — Manurewa, Alfriston and Te Haikura a Kiwa JC.

Later this year the students and their families will come together for a Graduation and Prizegiving to celebrate everything they have achieved. We are looking for local businesses to donate prizes or vouchers for the night — spot prizes, gift cards, products, anything at all is appreciated.

If your business can help please reach out to us via the MBA page or contact the Bluelight JAM team directly.

This is Manurewa investing in its own. Tag someone who should know about this programme.

There are a lot of great businesses across Manurewa and South Auckland quietly doing the hard work every day without much recognition.

The 2026 2degrees Auckland Business Awards are now open, and this is a good opportunity for local businesses to step forward, reflect on what they’ve built, and get recognised for the work they do in their communities and industries.

Whether you run a café, retail store, trade business, service business, or something completely different, there are categories open to businesses of all kinds.

Businesses can also be nominated by others, so if there’s a local business you think deserves recognition, now’s a good time to back them.

Entry is free.

Got a small business? This could be worth a look.

Entries are now open for The David Awards 2026 — celebrating small businesses across New Zealand that are making a real impact in their communities.

The awards are open to businesses with up to 10 full-time staff, including sole traders and owner-operated businesses.

Whether you’re running a café, retail store, trade business, service business, or something completely different, this is a chance to build recognition and put your business out there.

There are a range of categories, including the People’s Choice Award, which is always a great opportunity for local businesses to rally community support.

If you know a small business doing great things around Manurewa or Papakura, feel free to tag them below.

Be honest — how often are your staff dealing with difficult customers lately?

It’s something a lot of local retailers are seeing more of, but it doesn’t always get talked about.

There’s a new nationwide survey looking at customer behaviour in the workplace, and it’s a chance for people on the front line to share what’s actually happening day to day.

It only takes a few minutes, and it’s completely anonymous — but the more people who take part, the clearer the picture becomes.

Easter Sunday (5 April)
Before 1pm on Anzac Day (25 April)

There are some exceptions, but shops that open when they’re not allowed to may face fines.

What’s being targeted in retail might surprise you 👇

From Pokémon cards to everyday items like chocolate, retail theft trends are shifting — and it’s not always the obvious products being affected.

For local businesses, it’s a useful reminder to stay aware of what’s happening across the industry and think about where risks might sit within your own store.

Local businesses — we’d love your input

Auckland Council’s Economic Development team is looking for a small group of small–medium businesses to help test a new platform designed to support businesses during unexpected disruptions like power outages or supply delays.

Sessions are short (around 30 minutes), online, and your feedback will help shape tools for other Kiwi businesses.

If you’re keen to be involved, email:

Good afternoon Manurewa ☀️

Hope everyone’s having a good week so far.

Just a quick catch-up from around town this afternoon. Always nice to see a bit of activity out there.

And some good news! — the Manurewa Link Bus is running tomorrow through to Friday from 9:00am – 5:00pm, helping people get around town and visit local spots.

If you’re heading into town this week, keep an eye out for the Link Bus.

Thank you to all the people and businesses who attended the generation next event!
