Be honest — how often are your staff dealing with difficult customers lately?

It’s something a lot of local retailers are seeing more of, but it doesn’t always get talked about.

There’s a new nationwide survey looking at customer behaviour in the workplace, and it’s a chance for people on the front line to share what’s actually happening day to day.

It only takes a few minutes, and it’s completely anonymous — but the more people who take part, the clearer the picture becomes.

Retailers — quick heads up for Easter & Anzac Day 👇

Most shops aren’t allowed to open on:

Good Friday (3 April)
Easter Sunday (5 April)
Before 1pm on Anzac Day (25 April)

There are some exceptions, but shops that open when they’re not allowed to may face fines.

Worth double-checking the rules to make sure you’re covered.

What’s being targeted in retail might surprise you 👇

From Pokémon cards to everyday items like chocolate, retail theft trends are shifting — and it’s not always the obvious products being affected.

For local businesses, it’s a useful reminder to stay aware of what’s happening across the industry and think about where risks might sit within your own store.

Local businesses — we’d love your input

Auckland Council’s Economic Development team is looking for a small group of small–medium businesses to help test a new platform designed to support businesses during unexpected disruptions like power outages or supply delays.

Sessions are short (around 30 minutes), online, and your feedback will help shape tools for other Kiwi businesses.

Good afternoon Manurewa ☀️

Hope everyone’s having a good week so far.

Just a quick catch-up from around town this afternoon. Always nice to see a bit of activity out there.

And some good news! — the Manurewa Link Bus is running tomorrow through to Friday from 9:00am – 5:00pm, helping people get around town and visit local spots.

If you’re heading into town this week, keep an eye out for the Link Bus.

If you’re a business owner who hasn’t bought a ticket yet — maybe because you’re too busy, stretched thin, or thinking “I don’t have time for another event” — this message is for you.

The workforce is changing fast, and the way younger staff think about work, loyalty, and performance has shifted. Businesses that don’t adapt are already feeling it through disengagement, turnover, and stalled productivity. This session with Jehan Casinader is designed to help business owners stay ahead — with clear, practical strategies for managing the next generation of workers.

This isn’t theory or corporate fluff. It’s a one-morning investment that gives you practical tools and techniques you can actually use — to improve staff relationships, lift performance, and build a workplace that works with younger staff, not against them.

Seats are already selling, and numbers are limited. If you want to future-proof your business, gain an edge, and walk away with strategies you can use straight away, this is worth making time for.

Running a business today isn’t just about customers — it’s about people.
And for many employers, managing and retaining Gen Z staff has never been more challenging.

Gen Z now makes up a growing part of our teams, and the leadership approaches that worked even a few years ago don’t always land the same way. Disengagement, quiet quitting, and high turnover are becoming real issues for businesses across our communities.

That’s why the Manurewa Business Association is bringing Jehan Casinader live to Papakura for a practical, speaking event with subsidised tickets, designed specifically for business owners and managers.

This isn’t a theory session or a motivational talk.
It’s about real-world tools and strategies to help you:

better engage younger staff

build loyalty and trust in your team

improve performance and retention
