What’s Good in the Hood #14 🔥

What a mean vibe at the Night Markets in May! 🙌🏽 Awesome to see our community coming together, enjoying the great food, culture, and seeing whānau out and about supporting one another. Huge mihi to the organisers and everyone working hard behind the scenes to make it all happen.

Shout out to the youth team, the 5 Stars eats team, our local families sharing and selling their amazing food, and the talented gospel band and artists who brought the atmosphere to life. Special mention also to National Youth Week team, a great opportunity to celebrate and uplift our young people and the positive impact they have in our communities.
So good seeing everyone connect, support local, and enjoy the night together. Ka mau te wehi! ❤️ Get ready for the next one at the end of June🙌🏽

🔥🔥🔥 BRING ON 2026 🙌🏽
New stories, fresh news from our locals!

The Auckland Anniversary floods of 2023 had a profound and lasting impact on Mt Roskill, Puketāpapa. Homes were damaged, families were displaced, and many residents faced sudden and significant hardship.

Residents of Mt Roskill experienced severe flooding that caused structural damage to homes, loss of personal belongings, and emotional distress. Many families were forced to evacuate with little notice. The event exposed gaps in emergency preparedness and highlighted the vulnerability of certain households within our community.

We captured the stories of some of the residents who were affected, as well as the organisations that stood as pillars of support from the moment the disaster struck.

From this work, a new collective emerged: Rōpū Leadership Wesley Puketāpapa, a group formed to strengthen community leadership, resilience, and connection in the wake of the floods, committed to strengthening resilience and preparedness across Wesley and the wider Puketāpapa area.

We were blessed to be at the Puketāpapa Christmas Carnival to capture the event. What an amazing day it was!
Seeing families come through, watching everyone enjoy the performances from our local schools, local talents, the food, entertainment, and the bouncy castles was truly special.
A massive thank you to all the organisations that helped make this event happen. We appreciate you all. 🙌🏽🎄

Representing the Stoddard Road Economic Development project. How cool is that new mural on Stoddard Road?! This awesome project brought together locals, and the Puketāpapa Business Voice team worked with local businesses, community groups, local families help shape the design, colors and story behind the artwork by Paul Walsh.

So good to see families, Puketāpapa local board members, neighbours, MP Carlos, Community Patrol NZ, Neighbourhood Watch team, our local businesses out celebrating this stunning new addition to Mt Roskill!

Big shoutout to everyone who made it happen 👏 What a great showcase of local creativity and seeing community members come together to celebrate this incredible piece of art and the spirit of our neighbourhood!
