To celebrate the Auckland Heritage Festival, come down to Te Wharekura to discover a range of stories about agriculture through the lens of Te Ao Māori, embracing an interconnected perspective where people, spirituality and the natural environment are bound together.

The event will be hosted by our very own Kaimanaaki, Cassius Makoare, who will guide us through how Māori tend to, care for and nurture the whenua. We hope to see you there!

Te Wharekura Reopens Today!

We are pleased to let our community know that Te Wharekura has reopened and returned to our normal operating hours from today.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone for their patience, understanding, and support as we joined Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei in celebrating the life and legacy of Prince (Piriniha) Davis.

Prince was a respected Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei elder, cultural guide, and community leader who dedicated his life to sharing and preserving the history of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and Tāmaki Makaurau. His wisdom, generosity, and commitment to his people have left a lasting impact on countless lives.

He will be deeply missed, and our thoughts remain with his whānau and the wider Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei community during this time. 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛

✨ What a beautiful way to spend a Matariki morning. ✨

On Saturday, Te Wharekura welcomed whānau, manuhiri, curious passers-by & visitors from around the world for Matariki Kōrero - Tahi, led by Etienne Neho (Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei) as part of Matariki Festival '26.

With the Waitematā sparkling outside, we explored the stories of Te Kāhui o Matariki, wandered through the whare & waterfront, discovering how the whetū continue to guide our understanding of the seasons, waterways, food gathering & our relationship with te taiao.

It was especially heartening to welcomea group of rangatahi from the USA, keen to learn more about te ao Māori. Thank you to everyone who joined us & to Etienne for sharing his knowledge so generously.
