Massey Matters is a community development - and community-led development - agency based in Massey, West Auckland. Through our mahi we engage Massey communities in different ways according to their needs, wants and dreams. We are committed to providing opportunities for our people and strive to find new ways to inform and support them. We strive to be a significant part of our community, adding value to their lives that enable them to thrive. It's all tied into our Vision: "Thriving Local Communities"

We have been actively promoting and supporting the communities in Massey for nearly a decade as a registered charity. In that time we have developed and run initiatives that benefit our local residents and those from neighbouring suburbs. We routinely run free community events, manage two community hubs on behalf of Auckland Council, support local initiatives through a match fund and help our communities to develop and thrive through a range of programmes and activities.

Feeling really grateful tonight 🙏🥰

A massive thank you to Leonie, Mele, Tafa and the whole LIFE Community Kitchens team for the beautiful gift and the acknowledgement of our Massey Matters team this evening.

It was genuinely so thoughtful and really meant a lot to us at Massey Community Hub. We thank God for blessing us with people like you who take the time to see us, encourage us and remind us why we do what we do. ✨️

We know that having a heart for community goes both ways. We see you guys too... the mahi, the care and everything you do for our people, with humble and giving hearts, never expecting anything in return.

We appreciate you, and we’re really grateful to have you alongside us.

Our good friend Ethan Smith was also acknowledged tonight for his important involvement all over the community including through Te Piringatahi O Te Maungaarongo Marae , Triangle Park Community Teaching Garden and Kai West Collective. We thank you for the way you always continues to show up for the community wherever you're needed.

Tenei te mihi manahou ki a koe e Ethan mo o mahi rangatira I waenga I te hāpori, te Iwi o Te Kawerau a Maki ano hoki 🙏🤍

Just feeling really thankful for the good people God has placed around us. 🫶

Cookery Class at Massey Community Hub.

Thursday is my favorite day.
I get to bake with my students from ASL.😊

We have two Ashleys in our class and Ruben, they come with Monique.
We cook together, have plenty of laughs, learn new things, then the best bit: tasting what we have made before sharing it with our community.

Everything we make is given away to people in our local community, which makes our cooking class even more special.

Today we made Jammy Hearts 🍓

They were easy, delicious and looked so stinking cute!

The students really enjoyed making them, Ashley Z is already thinking about making some at home this weekend.

Perhaps a savoury version? 🤔
Pesto and cheese, maybe?

While I was away Ashley Z made some biscuits from our own cookbook and donated them to the Hospice.
It was a lovely idea and a wonderful way to share what we do beyond our Thursday sessions. ❤️

It’s not just about cooking. It’s about connection, confidence, creativity, having fun and doing something positive in our community together.

A big thank you to the Henderson-Massey Local Board for helping us provide community programmes like this.
Your support helps make these opportunities possible.
Thank you to Monique, our students and everyone who helps to make cooking on Thursday afternoons so much fun.

Now, I think I might need to work on that pesto and cheese version. 😂🧀🌿

Did you know that on the first Saturday of every month, Massey Community Hub comes alive with one of the best local markets around?

The Sunflower Market at 385 Don Buck Road is packed with local people selling the things they create and make, alongside a fresh fruit and vegetable stall, live music, great food, and an atmosphere that feels like community at its best.

If you're looking for something to do this Saturday, come along from 10am to 2pm. Support local, grab something tasty, enjoy the music, and be part of the vibe.

We'd love to see you there.
