We're excited to announce the launch of our new mobile dental clinic that will bring essential oral healthcare directly to our communities across Auckland. "For many years our community has been asking for better access to affordable quality dental care, so it's been high on our strategic priorities.

Having the Mobile Dental Clinic delivered to us is going to be transformational for many of our families across Tamaki Makaurau, Auckland," said The Fono CEO, Fiugalu Tevita Funaki. Our purpose-built mobile clinic will help community members who face challenges accessing dental care due to transportation difficulties, financial constraints, or busy schedules. This exciting initiative makes quality dental care more accessible for everyone.

𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐎𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡
A key focus of our mobile dental clinic is to provide earlier dental care for children. By reaching children sooner, we aim to reduce the number of young patients needing dental treatment under General Anaesthetic in Auckland hospitals. We will be working together with other providers, including the Auckland Regional Dental Service (ARDS), to improve timely access and oral health outcomes for children and adolescents across the region.

𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬
This mobile dental clinic is part of a broader government commitment to improving oral health. The 2022 Budget included $12 million for 20 new mobile dental clinics to increase access to oral health services for children and adolescents with the highest health needs. We are proud that The Fono was chosen as a provider for this initiative due to our understanding of Pacific cultural needs and our community-focused approach. Pacific communities were identified as a priority for the initial phase of this investment.

"Our mobile dental clinic represents a significant step forward in addressing oral health disparities in our communities," says Gillian Wilson, The Fono Dental Services Manager. "By bringing these services directly to neighbourhoods and community gathering places, we're removing many of the obstacles that prevent people from receiving timely dental care."

𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞
Our mobile dental team will provide:
Dental check-ups
Cleanings
Fillings
Oral health education
Our experienced dental professionals are committed to providing culturally responsive care that meets the needs of our diverse communities.

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐘𝐨𝐮
Following its official launch, the mobile dental clinic's first public appearance will be at ASB Polyfest 2025 on April 4-5 at Manukau Sports Bowl, where attendees can visit for free oral health checks and information.

We will initially partner with Early Childhood Centres and local church groups, which are important community hubs for many Pacific families. This approach makes dental care available in familiar, trusted places where community members already gather.

As the service grows, we will share information about locations and scheduling. Keep an eye on our website and future newsletters for updates on when the mobile dental clinic will visit your area.

I wanted to take the opportunity to recognise the leadership and stewardship of a great mentor and inspiration to many in our Pacific realm, Fep**ea’i Margie Apa. For us within Pacific Health, Fep**ea’i’s role as CEO for Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora was the realisation that ‘nothing is impossible’ for our people. As a professional public service leader, she managed a complex system with deep expertise, excellent communication skills, collaboration, tenacity and strength. Fep**ea’i is a long-term champion of our communities and Pacific equity within health.

Dr Dale Bramley (Ngā Puhi) is now Interim CEO, as recruitment for a permanent replacement gets underway. Many of you will know Dale from his work as CEO in Waitematā District Health Board.
