Exploring Social Enterprise for Community & Purpose-Led Organisations

Our latest South Auckland Capability Series workshop brought organisations together to explore how social enterprise can support purpose, financial sustainability and long-term impact.

Participants had the opportunity to:
⭐️Understand the shift in the funding landscape towards social enterprise and what it means for their organisation
⭐️Explore tools and resources to start or reimagine their organisation for greater financial sustainability
⭐️Gain ideas and practical templates for creating new offerings and building partnerships

🗳️ Young voices matter. So do opportunities to be heard.

More than 20 young people joined seven candidates from five political parties at Shore Junction on Thursday 24 September for **Youth Meet the Candidates**.

Hosted by **Younite and Bays Youth Council**, in collaboration with **ANCAD and Shore Junction**, the event gave young voters a chance to connect with candidates from across the North Shore and East Coast Bays, explore their priorities and gain fresh perspectives.

The conversation focused on issues that matter to young people, including economic pressures, climate change, mental health and youth unemployment, alongside a crucial question: **How will young voices be included in parliamentary decision-making?**

A big thank you to the young people who took part, the candidates who shared their views, and the youth organisers who brought everyone together. ANCAD is proud to support opportunities for young people to be informed, involved and heard. 💬

🌿 Governance Matters 7: The importance of a good Chair and the secrets of what a good Chair does

Our Governance Matters workshop brought community leaders and board chairs together for a practical and engaging session focused on the role and responsibilities of the Chair.

Participants valued the clear guidance, practical tips and real-world insights, with feedback highlighting how informative, relevant and easy to follow the session was.

We look forward to continuing to support community organisations to build their governance capability and confidence.

Supporting safer families and whānau takes a community working together.

The Rangitoto Observer recently highlighted a new Safety Assessment Meeting Facilitator role, hosted by ANCAD and funded by New Zealand Police National Headquarters.

The role will help police, government agencies and community services work more closely together to support people experiencing family violence on the North Shore.

Community organisations are often where people first turn for help. Their relationships and local knowledge are vital to a coordinated response.

We’re pleased to see this important work recognised. Thank you to the partners working alongside us to strengthen safety and support for our communities.

Community Think is looking for a Community Project Coordinator to help put the Milford Storm Recovery Plan into action.

Working alongside Milford Residents Association, Community Think and the wider Milford Storm Recovery Group, you’ll help coordinate projects, events and community activities that support a more connected and resilient Milford following the 2023 storms.

This could be a great fit for someone with local connections, strong organising skills and experience coordinating community projects or events.

Taking time together to look ahead 🌱

ANCAD’s Board and staff team came together at Shore Junction for our strategy review; a chance to step back from the everyday work, share perspectives and think about how we can best support our communities in the years ahead.

There’s real value in bringing people with different roles and experiences into the same conversation. It helps us recognise what’s working, question our assumptions and see possibilities we might miss on our own.

For us, this means asking some important questions: Where can ANCAD make the greatest difference? How can our programmes and services work more closely together? And what will community organisations need from us as their challenges and opportunities change? Thanks to Pat Crogan (Crogan Consulting) for steering the conversation.

A strategy review also helps us make thoughtful choices about where to focus our time, energy and resources. It’s an opportunity to build on our strengths while making room for fresh ideas and better ways of working.

Thank you to everyone who brought their experience, thoughtful questions and care for our communities to the day, and to Shore Junction for hosting us.

Stronger community organisations help build stronger communities. That’s the purpose keeping us focused as we look ahead. 💚
