Oratia Playgroup - Community

We are a community-based playgroup that provides a safe and fun environment for pre-school children and their whānau. First visit is free!

We operate from Monday to Wednesday, 9.30am to 12.00pm.

Oh what fun we are having at Oratia Playgroup this term!

Inside our hall, tamariki have been busy working on craft projects, figuring out puzzles, driving monster trucks and constructing with magnets and hammers and nails.

Outside, the playground has been buzzing with activity as always. Tamariki have been challenging themselves on the yellow zoom slide, swinging high on the swings, creating cafes and shops in the playhouse and cooking up treats in the mud kitchen.

If you want your child to experience the joy of Oratia Playgroup, please just pop along to one of our sessions. We are open on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during the school terms. First visit is free and then it’s just $5 for a session.

What a fabulous start to Term 2! The sun was shining (mostly) and the vibes were high 😎

Our tamariki were blown away by our new playhouse, which invited so much creative and imaginative play 🏠

The sandpit was bustling with construction and the playground was busy with movement and laughter.

Inside, our new magnetic tiles were made into towers, houses and zoos.

Term 2 at Oratia Playgroup starts this coming Monday 20th April 🛝

We have had such an awesome start to 2026 at Oratia Playgroup!

The sun has been shining and tamariki have been enjoying loads of outdoor play in our beautiful outdoor environment.

Water play, bikes, dinosaurs, diggers, shops, cooking at the mud kitchen, swings - we’ve done it all!

Indoors has been a nice retreat from the heat where we’ve enjoyed music, playing with cars, drawing, playdough and so much more.

We’re open every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9.30am-12pm. We’d love to see you soon!

Oratia Playgroup will be starting back up for 2026 on Monday 2nd February - and we can’t wait!

We will be at Mitre10 Mega New Lynn today doing a sausage sizzle to fundraise for playgroup. We’d love to see you there!

Water play in the sunshine and gumboots in puddles this week - spring is certainly upon us!!! ☀️☔️

The pipes coming out of the yellow trough were a new addition which got the kids playing creatively and constructively. At one point the pipes were a water slide for dinosaurs and then the next they had ‘cement’ flowing down them on a ‘construction site’. Love it!

On Wednesday, we improvised because of the rain and the pipe became ball shoots. Fun!

The table with magnets, animals and grass was a hive of activity as tamariki and their caregivers made zoos and cages for the animals. A lovely mix of open ended toys to spark conversation and imagination ✨

The costumes turned playgroup into a magical space as children pretended to be Spider-Man, dinosaurs and princesses.

This week our tamariki loved the sensory activity of excavating animals out of giant ice cubes 🧊 Kids hammered, melted and observed as the animals slowly made their way out. I’m keen to do a lot more fun things with ice this term as the weather warms up!

Speaking of weather, I think we’ve had more rain this term than all the other terms combined!

Luckily our indoor activities provided lots of fun as kids drove cars on tracks, played instruments and formed bands and created fun farm animal scenes.

A great week to kick off Term 4! We had some very mixed weather this week which kept us on our toes, but it didn’t stop the kids from having heaps of fun as usual.

Our tamariki seemed very happy to be back at playgroup after the break and enjoyed all the usual activities - the yellow slide, play dough, kitchens and sandpit 🤩

To get our creative juices flowing again, we painted rocks to hide in our playgroup garden / at home.
