Voting is open for Bird of the Year 2026 and we’re getting behind Live Ocean’s campaign to champion the Tākoketai Black Petrel.

Flying solo thousands of kilometres across the Pacific Ocean from Aotea Great Barrier Island and Hauturu Little Barrier Island, at just three months old, the tākoketai black petrel has a strong claim to being one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most underrated endurance athletes.
