Hey everyone who lives on/travels down Donald Bruce Road!

AT is holding focus groups this Friday and next week on improvements to Donald Bruce Road. They need your voice. If you have time to take during a work day, they would really appreciate that. If you can't take time off during the day, let them know that, too. ((Engagement should happen when the public can attend, not when it suits those holding the space.))

Dates will be available when you go through the app, and there is a koha for attending.

There are no right or wrong answers; we’re seeking your honest and open feedback for our research. This is not a consultation, the concepts we want to share are draft only, and at this stage they have not been endorsed for funding or implementation.

Ooooh! Look at this - an awesome way to share how fast bikes get through Auckland! I always say that it's the fastest - and funnest - way to go, and now we'll find out about times. (The fun part is just plain obvious - duh.)

Auckland Transport is planning to install the travel time signs at the following locations:

Constellation Drive, Northshore (Outside Gilmours heading west towards SH1)

Te Atatu Road, Te Atatū Peninsula (Near Harbourview Orangihina Park heading south towards SH16)

Pakuranga Road, Pakuranga (Between Lewis Road and Greenhill Crescent heading west towards Ra Hihi Flyover)

Ti Rakau Drive, Pakuranga (between Mattson Road and Roseburn Place heading west)

Apirana Ave, Glen Innes (Before the Merton Road roundabout approaching from the south)

The intention is to place these real-time travel signs at key locations where commuters can be well-informed of their journey times and modes. Insights from these locations will help determine future rollout across the network.

Sharrows, anyone? That's what those green rectangles with white bicycle stencils are called. (Share + arrow)

Dotting the Waiheke roads in Surfdale and Oneroa, they communicate to cyclists and drivers alike that cyclists can ride in the middle of the lane.

Sharrows are frequently used in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Spain and across New Zealand:
+ when the lane is too narrow for a car to safely pass a cyclist,
+ to give space for cyclists to avoid being doored,
+ when going downhill on a road without cycle lanes,
+ to indicate a route for cyclists.

Cyclists still need to be aware of their surroundings while using sharrows, but they are a great communicative tool for everyone! Ask away with any questions!

Adrien Top has created this awesome bike vs. car cost calculator for New Zealand, to help people decarbonise their transport. Giving current world events we think this a super helpful tool! Adrien has said elsewhere on facebook that he will try and build in a way to show how quickly you would be able to earn back an investment in an electric bike as well, which most people probably over estimate.

Tomorrow - Tuesday 3 Mar - is our first CAW catch-up of the year - come on down to Old Surfdale Post Office at 6pm! Bring your bike, as we'll kick off the meeting with a group ride along the Esplanade and back, before we settle into our meeting.

We'll have a rep from the local board here to talk about infrastructure. Let's talk events and bikes, too! And bring people who would like to join, too!
