Citizens Advice Bureau presentation at Botany Library this morning. Nothing like a practice fire drill to start the session!

Thank you, Hester, for running such an informative and interactive workshop. We are very lucky to have CAB as part of our support network in the community.

A huge thank you to Kristin from Dementia NZ, who recently presented an engaging and informative session focusing on understanding brain health and dementia.

It was a fantastic turnout, with great attendance and plenty of thoughtful questions from the community.

Together, we explored how the brain works and why brain health matters, early signs and symptoms of dementia, and practical ways to keep your brain healthy. Attendees also gained a clearer understanding of steps they can take to reduce their risk, along with where to find trusted support, information, and services.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such a positive and engaging session.

Thank you to Wendy Hampton for joining us for a thoughtful and informative session on Estate Planning.

Wendy helped break down what can often feel like a complex topic, guiding members through the importance of planning ahead, and making sure wishes are clearly documented.

There were plenty of questions and helpful discussion, with members gaining practical insights to feel more confident about planning for the future.

“Virtual” Village… but mostly in person?

It’s one of the questions we hear most often.

Virtual Village East isn’t a village you see on a map. It’s a “village without walls”. The word virtual simply means our community exists through connection rather than a physical place.

In reality, most of what we do happens face to face. Coffee catch ups, outings, community talks, walking groups, and learning sessions all bring people together across East Auckland.

The idea is simple: create a supportive network so older adults can stay connected, live fully and age well at home.

Ever wondered how your favourite ice cream is made? 🍦🍨

On our recent outing to the Tip Top Factory, we went behind the scenes to see how the ice creams are made and experienced a production line in action, watching Peanut Butter Cups made and packaged on the factory floor. There was plenty of reminiscing about favourite flavours from years past, followed by an ice cream of choice in the Magic Moments room. Yum!

We even squeezed in a spontaneous stop at Davis Food Ingredients on the way home, making it a fun foodie day out.

If you’d like to join us on our next outing, keep an eye on our What’s On page or send us a message. We would love to have you along!

Thank you to the Westpac NZ Financial Wellbeing Team for joining us for an engaging and practical Scams Awareness Workshop.

Savannah led the session with clear guidance on how to recognise common scams, protect personal information, and respond with confidence. We also appreciated the support of Elac and Maryam from the Westpac NZ Highland Park branch, who were on hand to answer questions and share insights.

It was a highly interactive session, with great discussion and real-life examples shared around the room. Sessions like this help our community stay informed, connected, and scam savvy.
