TONIGHT!
If you're a Grey Lynn Business - come have a beer on us tonight.
We will be at Malt Public House from 5.30pm.
Hear from our Board, our General Manager Caroline Tauevihi and the team leading our identitiy project Concept about all the great things that have been happening behind the scenes.
This is a chance to make your voice heard too. We want to know how we can best advocate for your business.
See you there!

It seems only fitting that our first post on our new page comes from a series everyone loves 👀

📍 Where in Grey Lynn?

If you were following along with our last Where in Grey Lynn? post you might've seen some locals mentioning outdoor arcade games...you may have a head start on this one 🎮

Circa 1989 when outdoor arcade machines were still a thing. With the dairy right behind for supplies, no one was getting home anytime soon.
A pretty iconic bit of Grey Lynn street life.

Any guesses where they are?

📍Where in Grey Lynn?

A little slice of Richmond Road, Grey Lynn, circa 1989.

Same street, very different era. Before it became the bustling strip we know today, this was the scene. A skateboard, a quiet stretch of footpath and plenty of space to perfect your kickflips 😎

Do you know this spot? Tell us where you think it is and if you’ve got memories of Grey Lynn from the 80s or 90s we’d love to hear them.

📸 Julie and Tracey outside MOA’s new Francis Street home. After almost 40 years in West Lynn, MOA has moved - just around the corner.

We sat down with Julie to reflect on forty years of local design, dressing generations of customers and an ever-changing neighbourhood.

Two Grey Lynn businesses. One international shortlist. 🌏

Our local bakery by day, bar by night Mother has been shortlisted in the 2026 Restaurant & Bar Design Awards - one of the world’s leading international awards celebrating food and beverage spaces.

And there’s an extra Grey Lynn connection: Mother’s owner-operator Hugo Baird collaborated with Grey Lynn based architectural and interior design studio CTRL Space to bring the space to life.

A big part of the Mother concept was making the workings of the venue part of the experience - opening up the bakery and kitchen so production, service and
atmosphere all happen together. According to Hugo, the ambition was to create somewhere that could “sit comfortably on an international stage, while still feeling at home in Grey Lynn.”

Mother’s already been on a roll this year taking out the Hospitality category at the 2026 New Zealand Interior Design Awards and receiving a Highly Commended at the Interior of the Year Awards.

Congrats to Mother + CTRL Space and good luck for October!

Winners will be announced the week commencing 5 October.

GREY LYNN HAS OPPORTUNITIES 👀

Looking for your next job? A new space to work from? Somewhere to shoot? A new home for your practice? Or perhaps you’re the one with an opportunity to share?

We’ve pulled together a new Opportunities hub on the Grey Lynn Edit - a place for local jobs, commercial spaces, creative opportunities, shoot locations and more.

Right now, you can find:
💼 Opportunities to join the GLBA Board - we’re currently looking for two new Board members.
📸 Shoot locations - including the beautiful Ada | Auckland Restaurant , available for creative and photography shoots.
🧘‍♀️ Spaces for practitioners - re:ab on Selbourne has opportunities for health and beauty practitioners looking for a space to work from.
🎨 Creative workspaces - 9B Kirk Street has shared coworking space for creatives and businesses looking to get out of the home office (and there’s now even a new café, Maeve tucked into the loadMaeveock if you need an extra incentive to make the move 😉

And this is just the beginning.

If you’re a Grey Lynn business with a job vacancy, available tenancy, residency, studio space, shoot location or another opportunity that could benefit someone in our community, we’d love to hear from you. Submit it through the Grey Lynn Edit and we’ll help get it in front of the local network.

And if you’re looking for something yourself, have a browse - there are plenty of other ways to plug into what’s happening around the hood, from events and activations to local business news.

Explore the Opportunities hub via the link in our bio.

Keep it local. Find it here.
