Beyond the reports and targets, our 2026 Mid-Year Organizational Project Review was also about people.

It gave our staff the space to share challenges, learn and unlearn, exchange what works, and connect with colleagues working across different field locations. But most importantly, these faces represent the people behind the work, those making sacrifices, showing up with commitment, and working every day to advance GSF’s mission and vision.

Together, we remain committed to ensuring that vulnerable people are protected, supported and not left behind.

We started the week with reflection, learning and a renewed sense of purpose by hosting our 2026 Mid-Year Organizational Project Review, bringing together staff to reflect on our progress, achievements, challenges and areas for improvement across our programmes and operations.

The review provided an opportunity to look closely at what we have accomplished so far, assess our performance against targets, share lessons learned, address ongoing operational concerns, and strengthen our priorities for the remainder of the year.

As we move into the second half of 2026, we are taking forward the lessons, insights and commitments from the review to improve our work, strengthen accountability and deliver greater impact for the communities we serve.

Last week, Grow Strong Foundation welcomed the Champions to our office for an institutional learning visit, accompanied by officials from the UNODC Maiduguri Office.

The visit provided an opportunity to share our firsthand experiences working with survivors and the realities surrounding SGBV, VAWG and other protection concerns in our communities. We also encouraged the Champions to leverage their voices and platforms to advocate for a society where sexual violence, abuse and all forms of violence have no place.

We look forward to seeing how they translate these lessons into meaningful action through their activities. We will continue to support, collaboration and partnership where necessary to address the root causes of violence and abuse in our communities.

Can justice protect a child without causing further harm?

Through the UNICEF-funded project, GSF is working with stakeholders in Bama and Pulka to strengthen child-sensitive justice and ensure that children affected by conflict are protected, supported and given a chance to rebuild their lives.

Security agencies, traditional authorities, youth leaders and community members are coming together to explore better ways of responding when children come into contact with the law, including early referral, family involvement, legal support, diversion and alternatives to detention.

When children are given the right support at the right time, they are less likely to experience further harm and more likely to recover, reconnect with their families and contribute positively to their communities.

This project is helping to create a justice system that protects children and gives them hope for the future.

What happens when a child comes into contact with the law?

For children affected by conflict, the response can shape the rest of their lives.

In MMC/Jere and Mafa, local authorities, security agencies, traditional leaders, youth representatives and community members came together to discuss how we can strengthen child protection, child-sensitive justice and diversion.

The focus was simple: protect children from further harm while ensuring accountability, rehabilitation and reintegration.

Through open dialogue, stakeholders explored better ways to respond to children in contact with the law, including alternatives to detention, family involvement and stronger referral pathways.

Because protecting a child is not only about responding to harm. It is about preventing it from happening again.
