As part of our activities, young players from Hausari Community in Bama LGA (Black Jerseys) and IDP (White Jerseys) came together for a friendly football match that ended in a 2–1 scoreline. But beyond the goals, the real victory was fostering friendship, trust, and peaceful coexistence.

Before the match, players gathered for a discussion on the importance of being one another's keeper. Their coach reminded them why they were playing not to compete, but to get to know one another, build relationships, and strengthen the bonds that unite their communities.

With many young boys and men in attendance, the activity created a safe space for dialogue, inclusion, and mutual respect, proving that peace can begin with something as simple as a shared game.

This activity was supported by UNICEF as part of ongoing efforts to promote social cohesion and peaceful communities.

As the effects of insurgency continue to linger, many children are left carrying memories that affect their well-being, leaving them struggling to cope with the realities of everyday life.

With support from United Nations OCHA, Grow Strong Foundation is providing lifesaving psychosocial support services to vulnerable children in Yobe and Borno States. But while we've made meaningful progress, far too many children are still waiting for the support they need.

More is urgently needed to ensure every child has the opportunity to heal, recover, and thrive.

“This project has changed our school. Our learners now have clean water within the school, they spend more time learning, and we no longer worry about them leaving the premises in search of water.”_
Ishaku Andrawus, Head Teacher, Guduf B Primary School

For years, thousands of learners at Guduf B Primary School Cluster struggled with limited access to safe water, affecting learning, hygiene, and their safety. Through the Education Cannot Wait (ECW) Multi-Year Resilience Programme II, implemented by Grow Strong Foundation (GSF) in partnership with the NRC - Norwegian Refugee Council, the old hand-pump was upgraded into a solar-powered motorized borehole with a 5,000-litre overhead tank and four water points.

Today, more than 4,000 learners have reliable access to clean water, creating a healthier, safer, and more conducive learning environment where every child can remain in school and focus on their education.

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) has the power to transform lives, but skills alone are not enough. For many young people in vulnerable communities, the biggest barrier is not learning a trade, it's having the tools to begin.

Evidence from global development programmes consistently shows that combining skills training with access to productive assets leads to better employment outcomes and more sustainable livelihoods.

As we continue to invest in youth development, we encourage governments, development partners, the private sector, and philanthropists to prioritize start-up support alongside vocational training.

This is possible through funding by NRC - Norwegian Refugee Council in Gwoza LGA, Borno State Under the MYRP II project, because together, we can turn skills into livelihoods and lasting impact.
