Northern Nigeria is bearing the brunt of interlocking shocks — insecurity and conflict, mass displacement, economic hardship, climate change impacts and high food insecurity levels that are pushing millions of people to the brink of survival ahead of the June to August lean season.

The region also has a forced displacement crisis. Most IDPs live in host communities, intensifying pressure on household food access during the lean season.

Humanitarian partners are responding but they need all hands on deck to bridge the gap in funding for the 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) for the North-East and the Operational Plan for the North-West.

Sirri Care Foundation participated in a Humanitarian Coordination/Reset and Adolescent Programming Training facilitated by Plan International in collaboration with United Nations OCHA Nigeria
The training provided valuable insights on strengthening humanitarian coordination mechanisms and advancing adolescent-centered programming within humanitarian response systems. It also reinforced the critical importance of ensuring that adolescents are not only considered beneficiaries of interventions, but active participants in shaping programmes and decisions that affect their lives.
Empowering adolescents with knowledge, safe spaces, and opportunities for engagement is essential to building resilient, inclusive, and accountable communities.

HE RETURNS is a cultural drama set in Maiduguri, Northeast Nigeria, that examines the tension between tradition and the rights of the girl child. The story follows Baba Mai, a prince who returns home after studying abroad, and Zainab, a young woman who has been groomed for marriage since childhood according to custom.

When Baba Mai rejects the arranged union and chooses Halima, an educated and independent woman, the decision exposes deep-rooted biases against girls and women whose value is tied solely to tradition and marital readiness. Zainab faces public humiliation, emotional pressure, and discrimination for circumstances beyond her control, highlighting how cultural expectations can silence and disempower the girl child.

Through humor, romance, palace politics, and cultural rituals, the play shifts the narrative from personal heartbreak to systemic advocacy. It confronts discrimination in its forms: stigmatization, and the curtailing of education and self-determination of the girl child.

Sirri Care Foundation recently organized a training on the Foundations of MHPSS and Child Protection, bringing together staff from Sirri Care Foundation, Pro-Wellness Humaniterian Initiative Nkamson Charity Foundation and Protection without Borders
The training was designed to strengthen practical skills in supporting children and vulnerable populations through Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), Child protection principles and case management, and Reintegration approaches—social, economic, and psychosocial.
Through interactive sessions, case studies, and group work, participants enhanced their capacity to deliver safe, ethical, and responsive services to children and communities in need.
We deeply appreciate Grow Strong Foundation for supporting the facilitation of this training.
Sirri Care Foundation remains committed to building strong partnerships and investing in people to deliver meaningful impact.
