🚨 Swift Action for Community Health at Wulari IDP Camp! 🚨

Last Friday, Hallmark Leadership Initiative (HALI), ROAF, and Thrive Youth Sustainability Initiative quickly mobilized to tackle a reported outbreak of Apollo conjunctivitis in the camp.

With nearly 9,000 vulnerable internally displaced persons, including women, children, and the elderly, living in close quarters, a fast and coordinated response was absolutely critical to stop the spread.

🩺 What did we do?
We brought together medical support and community volunteers to distribute appropriate medication and, crucially, to educate the community on how to protect themselves.

Our teams held sensitization sessions focusing on:
👁️ How to spot the early signs and symptoms
🛑 Steps to prevent transmission inside homes and shared spaces
🧼 Best hygiene and infection-prevention practices
🩹 The importance of seeking proper medical care instead of self-medicating. This joint response shows exactly why locally led, community-centered action is the most effective way to protect vulnerable lives during public health emergencies.

Every successful humanitarian intervention is strengthened through reflection, collaboration, and shared learning.

Hallmark Leadership Initiative successfully concluded a one-day Project Review Meeting in Maiduguri, bringing together project staff and key stakeholders. The meeting reviewed implementation progress, shared lessons learned, addressed challenges, and identified strategies to enhance the quality and impact of project delivery.

The review was conducted under the ‘Strengthening Disability-Inclusive Humanitarian Assistance in Maiduguri and Jere LGAs in Borno State’ project, reaffirming our shared commitment to delivering timely, coordinated, and life-saving assistance to vulnerable communities.

Together, we are strengthening partnerships, improving accountability, and enhancing our collective impact for conflict-affected populations.

🤝 Community leadership at the centre of protection and peacebuilding.

This week, HALI under the strategic partnership agreement II (SPA II) convened a stakeholders' engagement dialogue with traditional and community leaders at Shehuri community, Maiduguri, under the ActionAid Nigeria SPA II project.

Together, we discussed community priorities for protection and peacebuilding — because lasting change starts with the people who lead these communities every day, not with plans made without them.

Grateful to the traditional and community leaders of Shehuri for their time, insight, and continued partnership in building safer, more peaceful communities across Borno State.

Hallmark Leadership Initiative successfully hosted the GBV Sub-Sector Meeting in Maiduguri.

The meeting brought together sector partners to discuss key issues around Gender-Based Violence, share updates, address challenges, and agree on coordinated actions to better prevent and respond to GBV in communities.

We remain committed to strengthening collaboration across the sector to ensure timely, safe, and survivor-centered support for vulnerable populations.

Congratulations to our Board Chairman, Engr. Baba Shehu Terab, MNSE, of the Nigerian Mainstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Abuja, on his conferment as the new Mallam Terab of Bama!

The Management and Staff of Hallmark Leadership Initiative (HALI) join the Terab family and the entire Bama community in celebrating this well-deserved honour approved by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Borno State, Engr. Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, FNSE, MNI, CON, and conferred by His Royal Highness the Shehu of Bama, Dr. Shehu Umar Kyari Umar El-Kanemi.

Engr. Terab has been a passionate leader, mentor, and guiding hand to HALI's work across Borno State, and we are proud to see that same spirit of service now extend to the Bama Emirate Council.

Today is International Youth Day. This year's theme: "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations" and we saw it play out, unscripted, last week. Young people displaced by conflict in Maiduguri, under the SPA II project, sat down to paint what they hoped for.

No prompt needed ..Most of them painted a home, and a tree. Different context. Same aspiration: Safety and a liveable future.
That's the thread running through SPA II's work with young people across Borno State — safe spaces, education, livelihoods, and peacebuilding that put young people in the lead, not the margins. At HALI, young people don't just take part in our programmes — they help shape and lead them, and we carry that same principle into how we work with community and youth structures beyond our own.

"Healing begins with understanding and collective support"

Through Community Dialogue on Trauma Awareness and Community Resilience. The beneficiaries of Borno Safe Space for Girls Education Project engaged with caregivers, traditional leaders, and religious leaders to discuss practical ways of promoting healing, protection, and resilience within their communities.

Together, we are creating stronger support systems and building a more resilient future.
