We are delighted to launch our first ever conference led by our Social Policy Officer. This conference deals with the implementation of miscarriage leave in Malta, together with a panel of speakers. The main aim of this conference is to raise more awareness on miscarriages.
Dr. Charlene Baldacchino Gauci is a Senior Associate at Mifsud & Mifsud Advocates. With expertise in fields such as Employment Law and Maritime Law, she has represented clients before Malta's Industrial Tribunal and Superior Courts, guided companies in building healthy workplaces, and advised on complex maritime transactions.
Ms. Mariella Meachen is a registered nurse (1983) and a Gestalt Psychotherapist (2008) with a B(Psych) Hons from the University of Malta (2003) and a Master’s in Gestalt Psychotherapy (2016).
She worked as a nurse in St. Luke’s Hospital from 1983 to 1999 before she persued her studies in psychotherapy. She has been practicing psychotherapy since 2008 in Mater Dei Hospital supporting staff members and patients.
Ms Helga Consiglio has worked in Obstetrics and Gynaecology since 1998, with extensive experience in all aspects of pregnancy care, including early pregnancy complications and fetomaternal medicine.
She has a particular interest in early pregnancy loss and has been instrumental in expanding services at Mater Dei Hospital to better support affected women and their families. Her contributions include the continual development of the Recurrent Pregnancy Loss Clinic and the establishment of the Early Pregnancy Unit, which opened in June 2025.
Ms Consiglio has played a key role in building a dedicated multidisciplinary team within the Early Pregnancy Unit, ensuring the delivery of compassionate, specialised care. She remains committed to advancing patient-centred services and improving standards of care in
women’s health.
In addition to her clinical work, Ms Consiglio is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta, sharing her expertise in women’s health and contributing to the training of future healthcare professionals at both undergraduate and post-graduate level.
