Tumaini Childrens HOME Bamburi Tumaini Children’s Home was founded by a Trust Deed in Mombasa, Kenya in December, 2002. The vision was to establish a childrens home The administrator is Mr.

The vision was to establish a home to provide treatment and accommodation for children suffering from Human Immune Deficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome who are orphans or who have been abandoned. Currently it has developed to the status of:

1) Tumaini Children’s Home provides a home for 59 children. 30 girls who occupy the upper floor of the home and 29 boys who are accommodat

ed on the ground floor. All Children are orphans and have been assigned to the home by the County Children’s Department as per their selection, rules and regulations. 31 of the children are HIV positive and a number of them on Anti Retroviral Medication. The youngest child is just under one year and the oldest 16 years old. Mark Kayanda Bisia and the Matron Mrs. Mary Mwamburi. The home has 8 mothers to care for the children, 3 cooks for the kitchen and 4 staff in housekeeping to care for the home. Security is provided by a private firm round the clock.

2) Tumaini Children’s Home Sirio Nursery and Primary School. The school was built on 2nd plot across the road so that it would provide Kindergarten, Nursery and Primary education to the children of the home. It is also open to the community around and provides a conducive environment for the children to learn and also integrate with the rest of the society. The school has a population of 300 children in all and a teaching staff of 18 teachers. The headmaster is Mr. Charles Kamau.

3) Tumaini Children’s Home Out-patient Clinic. The clinic is built and equipped with a modern laboratory within the home to care for the children. It also provides for the community medical care on subsidized fee. The clinic is run by a Clinical Officer Mr. Ronald Ambani, lab Technician Ms. Mary Muli, Registered Nurse Naomi Sanguli and the home Matron is also a Registered nurse.

4) The Vocational Training Centre- The vocational Centre impacts learners with tailoring skills and dress making. The Administration is provided by two tier management. The Board of Trustees provide the policy, advocacy, legal, infrastructure and financial management and they include:

The Tumaini Children’s Home Auditors are PKF, Mombasa. The TCH Fund shall be applied to the following activities:
• Cost of maintaining a child at the home( feeding, clothing, educating and medical)
• Secondary education in a boarding school,
• Tertiary education in a College or University,
• Vocational training for those completing school and of age to learn a vocation to be independent,
• Microfinance for setting up a business so as to be self dependent,
• Maintenance of the Institutions
• Further expansion of the Institution
• Any activity which shall enhance the Institutions and shall have been approved by Trustees. Partnership:
Tumaini Children’s Home has friends and visitors with an intention of doing good coming together, creating committees, boards and trusts, putting up structures as needs arise, getting into crisis, picking up the strings, achieving and building good will but now are at the level where each is looking at capacity building, good governance with accountability, compliance, institutional excellence, consolidation and self reliance through strategic planning for perpetuity. It must be recognise that:
a) Ms. Joan Smith must be credited for this dream, her efforts, financial contributions and care for the children for whom she is the beloved grandmother. b) The Directors of Bamburi Holdings namely late Mr. Dalip Singh Obhrai, Mr. Jaspaul Singh Kandhari now living in United Kingdom, Mr.Igbal Mirza and Mrs. Shukla for donating the two plots on which exist the home and the school. c) Mr. Ajit Singh Bhogal for advocacy of bringing all of them together and making financial and professional contributions in building and managing the institutions for so many years. d) The Tumaini Homes of Hope, UK for raising substantial funds for the buildings and for running of the home and current chair is Ms. Michelle Porter. e) Tumaini Waisenhaus Forderverein (TWFV) an initiative of medical doctors led by Dr. Reinhard Esser and Now Dr. Beatrice Weibe with their families and friends collecting and making contributions to the home for the children as significant major donors. They have also provided medical care, equipment, medicines and many valuable needs of the home. f) Captain Roberto who flew tourists from Italy’ collected and made contributions to the Sirio School by sponsoring 4 classrooms and many other needs of the children. g) Tumaini Children’s Home Trust-UK, chaired by Mr. Douglas Lang’ who are the most recent partners on board. h) All the Trustees, Management Committee members and many donors who have positively made an impact on the lives of these children. The list of donors can run into many pages. We now invite donors willing to unite and partner with us in building mutual trust and respect, participate positively with simple memos of understanding to take Tumaini Children’s Home to the next level of growth.
