National Education Trust Jamaica NET Jamaica offers help to educational institutions in Jamaica

The STEAM Education in Schools Programme is a three-year initiative (November 2024 – October 2027) developed by the British Council in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information (MoESYI) and the Micro Educational Foundation.

The programme is funded by the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, the National Education Trust, e-Learning Jamaica Co. Ltd. and the British Council, with additional support provided by the Micro Educational Foundation.

The programme aims to strengthen the skills and competencies of children and young people by integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) concepts throughout Jamaica’s education system.

Over its three-year duration, the programme seeks to train 10,770 teachers, benefit approximately 328,500 students, and distribute more than 30,000 Micro devices to schools across the island.

After Hurricane Melissa tore through Jamaica in October 2025, Ms. Shantal Burns, a Grade 3 teacher, faced a challenge no family should have to endure—the loss of her home.

While continuing to show up for her students each day, she has also been navigating the difficult journey of rebuilding and recovering from the storm’s devastating impact.

✨ Four schools. One mission. Stronger learning environments for students across Jamaica.

Today, the National Education Trust joined the Jamaica Defence Force and United States Southern Command in supporting the JDF Day of Service through a school refurbishment initiative at four institutions across the island.

🎨🖌️ Gaynstead and Clan Carthy High Schools, along with Grove and Rennock Lodge Primary and Infant Schools, benefited from minor maintenance works aimed at enhancing their learning environments. Activities included painting, landscaping 🌳, groundskeeping 🌿, and repairs to playground equipment 🛝.

Through this collaborative effort, the U.S. Navy, Jamaica Defence Force, and their partners provided the resources, materials, and manpower needed to improve these educational spaces, demonstrating the power of partnership in supporting students and school communities across Jamaica.
