🌙 Ramadan Mubarak from JamWaqf Endowment 🌙

A month of mercy, forgiveness, and multiplied rewards has arrived.

Ramadan is not only a time for fasting — it is a time to build your lasting legacy. Through waqf (endowment), your charity continues to give long after Ramadan ends.

JamWaqf Endowment is working to establish permanent, Shariah-compliant endowments in Jamaica that generate sustainable support for:
📚 Education
🕌 Masjid development
👵🏽 Elders & vulnerable families
🏥 Healthcare support
🌱 Community empowerment initiatives

Instead of one-time giving, waqf creates continuous impact — preserving the capital and using its returns to serve the community for generations.

Make this Ramadan the moment your charity becomes ongoing reward (Sadaqah Jariyah).

May Allah (SWT) accept your fasting, your prayers, and your generosity, and make this Ramadan a source of transformation and lasting reward for you and your family.

Support JamWaqf. Build for the future. Give for generations.

🕌JUMMAH MUBARAK
🌱A Charity That Never Ends🌱

Allah reminds us in the Qur’an:
“Whatever you spend in charity, it is for your own good—as long as you do so seeking the pleasure of God. Whatever you donate will be paid back to you in full, and you will not be wronged.”
[Surah Al-Baqarah: 272]

This verse captures the heart of what is about — giving sincerely for the sake of Allah and creating lasting benefit for others.

Endowment is being established to build a sustainable charity for the Jamaican community, where donations are preserved, invested in halal ways, and used to support:
🕌 Community and religious development
🏥 Health and social support
🌾 Agriculture and livelihoods
🏫 Education and vulnerable families

Your support helps plant seeds of that continue to benefit people for generations, in-sha-Allah.

What is Waqf (Islamic Endowment)?
🔹 Imam Abu Hanifah described waqf as “Restricting the asset under the ownership of the donor while giving its benefits in charity.”

🔹 His students (Abu Yusuf and Muhammad al-Shaybani) defined it as “Restricting the asset under the ownership of Allah تعالى while giving its benefits in charity.”

🔹 Imam al-Nawawi defined waqf as: “Preserving an asset that can be benefited from while keeping its original form intact, and dedicating its benefits for the sake of Allah.”

🔹 The Maliki school definitions: Ibn ‘Arafah described waqf as “giving the benefit of something for as long as it exists, while ownership remains with the giver, even if only in a legal sense.”

🔹 The Hanbali school definitions: Ibn Qudamah summarized it beautifully as: “Preserving the asset and dedicating its yield.”

🔹 Economist Monzer Kahf defines waqf as:“Redirecting wealth away from immediate consumption and investing it in productive capital assets that generate benefits and income to be used in the future, whether for individuals or for the community.”

- A LESSON IN LASTING CHARITY -

THE FOUNDATION OF WAQF (ISLAMIC ENDOWMENT)
Narrated from Ibn Umar that: ʿUmar said: ‘I have acquired land in Khaybar, and I have never acquired property more precious to me than it. What do you command me to do with it?’ The Prophet ﷺ replied, ‘If you want, sequester its principle and dedicate (the profits) for charitable purposes.’ Ibn ʿUmar said, ‘ʿUmar gave away the yields as alms on the condition that it (the principal) not be sold, given away as a gift, or inherited. ʿUmar gave the yields away as alms for the poor, kin relations, freeing of slaves, (the funding of) military expenditures, travelers, and guests.
It will not be held against the one who administers it if they eat from it in an appropriate manner or gives something to a friend so long as they do not appropriate any of the property.

It is reported that Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh (رضي الله عنه) said:
When ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (رضي الله عنه) documented his charitable endowment during his caliphate, he called a group from the Muhājirīn and the Anṣār, brought them together, and made them witnesses to it. News of it then spread.

Jābir said: I do not know of a single person with means among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ—whether from the Muhājirīn or the Anṣār—except that he set aside some of his as an (waqf), a charity held in perpetuity: it was neither sold, nor inherited, nor given away.

🌙 Abū Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه), narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said: “When the son of Ādam dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a child who supplicates for him.” (Muslim)

Shaykh Ibn Bāz (رحمه الله) explains:
"The point of evidence here is the phrase “ongoing charity,” meaning that after death this charity continues to benefit him. For example, he may dedicate land that is rented out, and its rental income is spent on the poor and needy, in the path of your lord, in the maintenance of mosques, in assisting relatives, and in other similar causes.

This is the meaning of ongoing charity: the principal asset remains, while its yields continue—whether those yields are money, crops, fruits, or other forms of produce that come from an endowed property.

⚖️ Waqf vs One-Time Charity

What’s the Difference — and Why It Matters?
🟢 One-time charity helps once.
This type of charity responds to an immediate need — food for today, fees for this term, relief after a crisis. These acts are all noble, necessary, and rewarded by Allah. This play a role in the society and caters to immediate needs.
🟢 Waqf, on the other hand, helps forever.
As for , the donation is set aside permanently. The capital is preserved, invested in ways, and the benefit is used again and again — year after year, generation after generation. This makes waqf the solution for long-term social welfare and development.

💡 The key difference:
• One-time charity is consumed
• Waqf is sustained
With waqf, the donor might disappear but the donation never disappears — it keeps giving, supporting religious activities, , fee, families in need, and community institutions long into the future.
This is why waqf has been one of the strongest pillars of Muslim communities throughout history — and why is being established to revive this powerful tradition in Jamaica.

🌱 How Can Waqf Support the Jamaican Community?

For many years, our community has relied heavily on emergency fundraising and short-term donations. While these efforts are important and often lifesaving, they usually respond to immediate needs and can leave institutions and families dependent on the timing and willingness of donors.

A waqf, however, offers a different and more empowering approach.

Through a waqf, resources are permanently set aside, invested responsibly, and the benefits are used continuously to serve the community. This creates stability, protects dignity, and promotes independence rather than dependency.

In practical terms, a waqf can provide:

💹New Islamic financial and investment opportunities
🕌 Ongoing assistance for masjids and community institutions
📚 Sustainable support for education
👨‍👩‍👧 Long-term help for families in need
🌱 Resilience against economic hardship and natural disasters

JamWaqf Endowment aims to build this kind of foundation in Jamaica — not just for today, but for generations to come, in shā’ Allāh.
