The first batch of students under the FYUP in Meghalaya are now appearing for the third year degree exam. Once they pass and obtain a three-year degree, what are the options open for them, should they pursue Fourth year of the FYUP, or should they join the Two-Year PG program in NEHU, will there be one-year PG in NEHU - these are some questions bothering the UG students in Meghalaya. I hsve shared my views on these issue in this piece, Advice to the UG Students: Fourth-Yesr FYUP or Two-Year PG?, published in today's Shillong Times'. I hope this piece helps our students. Request all UG teachers in the colleges share this piece with the students and their parents.

Apart from approving the FYUP syllabus for 7th and 8th semesters, some positive decisions were taken in today's AC meeting in NEHU.

1. It was made clear that joining two-year PG in NEHU is more useful to the students than joining Fourth-Year under FYUP in the colleges.
2. The students who have done three-year degree snd obtained 120 credits are eligible to seek admission into 2-year PG in NEHU.
3. Several colleges have resolved not to go for the Fourth-Year of FYUP. Fourth-Year FYUP will be there in select colleges.
4. The colleges going for Fourth-Year under FYUP will be advised to recruit two more teachers.
5. The AC was informed about the need for revising the old ordinances which talk about the minimum number of teachers, books, infrastructure.
6. The students will be communicated about the pro and cons of joining Fourth Year of FYUP and no false hopes of starting one year PG will be given at this stage.
7. The need and difficulties of starting one-year PG is also discussed.
8. Discussions took place in democrstic way and PVC took note of the points raised by the members.

The People's Parliament met today in Bengalore to amend and approve People's Education Policy. Several leading educationidts like Prof. Thorst, Prof. Rampuntani, Prof. Aditya Mukherjee, Prof. Sachidanda Sinha, Prof. ArunKumar, Prof. Mrudula Mukherjee, Prof. R Mahalakshmi, Jawahar Sarkar, and many others. More than 700 delegates from different states participated in this historic Parliament. From Meghalaya, six members participated actively in the deliberations. Dr. Batskhem Myrboh anx Prof. H. Srikanth spoke in the plenary session giving northeastern perspective. A Bengaluru Declaration was adopted to fight for implementation of the People's Policy on Education.
