Grassroot hosted the Rice Harvest Festival on November 28, 2025, in Mawtari–Thaiang Village, Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya.

This gathering celebrated the rhythm of the harvest, the wisdom of Indigenous farming traditions, and the cultural heritage that continues to sustain our people.
Students, farmers, elders, and community members came together to share knowledge, participate in cultural activities, and honour the spirit of the land. It was a meaningful celebration of community, culture, and connection.

As Indigenous Peoples, we are the guardians of the earth; guided not by science alone but by lived wisdom, not by classrooms but by generations of shared knowledge. Our culture teaches us that every grain carries a story, every field holds a memory, and every harvest is a collective act of care.

Two-Day Indigenous Fellowship Program

Grassroot successfully hosted a two-day Indigenous Fellowship Program on the Revival of Lost Arts, Culture, and Traditional Practices.

The program focused on:

1. Introduction to Indigenous Peoples, their rights, and safeguarding traditional art, culture, and practices.

2. Leadership and communication skills for Indigenous youth.

3. Activities: listing declining dances, languages, folktales, and Indigenous games of the Northeast, followed by storytelling sessions and playing traditional games.

4. Research and documentation as tools for cultural revival.

5. Sharing logistical information about the project.

We were honored by the presence of Mr. Paul Chawang from AMYAA, Manipur, who shared pressing issues faced in Senapati District and inspired participants with his concern and motivation for Indigenous youth. His words reminded us of the responsibility we carry to preserve and pass on our heritage.

Together, we move forward, reviving what is fading and celebrating what continues to live through us.
