Reflecting on a Decade of Change: The Journey of Y4D Foundation
The story of Y4D Foundation is closely linked to India’s journey from the challenging times of the 1980-1990s to the hopeful present day. Our roots go back to a generation of families who faced financial hardships, where parents worked hard to secure better futures for their children despite limited resources. We belong to that generation and understand the sacrifices made by our parents, as well as the gap in opportunities between cities and villages.
The Early 2000s: An Eye-Opening Experience
In the 2000-2010, as we entered our careers, we would return to our home villages with a strong sense of purpose and the desire to give back. However, we soon noticed a harsh reality: while cities were filled with opportunities in education, technology, and jobs, rural communities were left behind, often unaware of the possibilities out there. We realized we could either offer financial help or share knowledge with our communities to support them.
Financial help has limitations; it offers only temporary relief, and we didn’t have the resources to help many people. Empowering people through knowledge, however, has the power to lift entire communities. So, we started volunteering to support underprivileged people in rural as well as urban areas. But without a clear structure, our efforts could only go so far. We needed an organized approach to make a lasting difference.
The Birth of Y4D Foundation:
With the vision of our president, Praful Nikam, and a desire to serve society in a structured way, we founded Y4D Foundation. It was a humble beginning, as most of us were balancing full-time jobs and didn’t have the financial stability to work solely on it dedicate our full time for this purpose. But with dedication, we gave our most of the time and energy to volunteering, learning, and working with many talented and dedicated volunteer under the leadership of Mr. Praful Nikam.
2015-2018: Building a Strong Foundation
From 2015 to 2018, we focused on learning more about India’s social sector. We realized that to have a real impact, we needed an office, dedicated teams, and a clear direction. During this time, Praful Nikam took a big step, leaving his full-time job to dedicate himself to Y4D’s mission. This marked a turning point as we started to grow Y4D into an organized foundation capable of long-term impact.
2019-2024: Growth and Building Impact
With a solid foundation and clear goals, we entered a period of rapid growth. Between 2019 and 2024, Y4D expanded significantly. We built specialized teams for corporate partnerships, project management, media, human resources, and accounting. We learned to navigate the complexities of the social sector, seeking CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funding and aligning our skills with social causes. We focused on four key areas: education, livelihood, environment, and healthcare. These areas represented important needs in society and allowed us to apply our knowledge and passion to create lasting change.
During these years, we moved from simply meeting immediate needs to building sustainable models that empower people and communities. Education became more than just providing access; it became about improving its quality. Skill development shifted from basic training to providing skills that meet global standards, allowing people to compete in a challenging world.
2024 Onwards: A Vision for the Future
As we look toward the future, we’re motivated by a strong commitment to India’s progress. We understand that India has reached a point where it’s not only about access to education but about ensuring quality education. The need for skill development is also evolving—it’s no longer just about skills but about preparing people to meet international standards. Y4D’s mission is to lead this shift, helping India’s social sector grow through innovation, collaboration, and impactful programs.
In the coming years, we aim to empower the social sector by building partnerships, creating strong networks, and sharing our knowledge with others who want to make a difference. We plan to develop scalable models across communities, so that every child receives quality education, every individual gain skills that empower them, and every community has the resources to thrive alongside the environment.
A Journey of Dedication and Community
Looking back, Y4D Foundation is more than just an organization; it’s a story of dedication, community, and hope for a brighter future. From our modest beginnings to the strong foundation, we have today, our journey has been one of resilience, growth, and commitment to progress.
As we step into the next decade, we invite others to join us. Together, we can turn dreams into achievements—not only for ourselves but for generations to come. The journey is long, but with each step, we get closer to a society where everyone has access to opportunity, dignity, and prosperity.
