Under a tree in Gudalur, children held up emoji masks and named what they were feeling. In Chennai, a ‘Mind Tree’ grew leaf by leaf with messages of hope.

At Road To School, we believe no child thrives in isolation. Every child’s wellbeing is shaped by the family and community around them.

This World Mental Health Day, we’re highlighting a community initiative in Tamil Nadu that created safe spaces for people to talk about mental health, manage stress and support one another. Led by mental health professionals and community volunteers, these conversations helped strengthen local networks of care.

Because stronger communities begin with people who feel seen, heard and supported.

Global water challenges call for local water wisdom. In the most water-stressed state of India, Rajasthan, we bet on simple solutions that make a big impact—precisely because they work with local climate conditions and cultures. The concept of a village nadi or pond is an old one that we’re working to revive and update for the evolving challenges of a warming planet.

In 200+ villages across seven districts in Rajasthan, our Jal Jeevan program in partnership with Ambuja Foundation NGO has built and revived nearly 250 farm and irrigation ponds. This translates to:

The elders of Nehru Nagar have flagged off the festive season by inaugurating a project that brings clean drinking water to their community ✨

Residents of Nehru Nagar in Ennore, Chennai have long suffered from chronic water scarcity. Being a coastal region, what water is available is often brackish and hard. Through the Jal Jeevan initiative, we’re making sure that the 1,000+ households here have easy, affordable access to potable water, all year round. Swipe to read more⏩

Phase 2 of this project will add on-grid solar power to bring down electricity costs and eventually make the ATM energy-neutral.

Our programme is built on the efforts of resource persons (RPs) who work among communities, visiting families, conducting surveys and clearing obstacles that stand in the path to education. Arranging a school van, a hot lunch, or a raincoat so a child can make it to school—it’s all in a day’s for a Road To School RP.
