PanIIT Alumni India proudly celebrates a landmark day for the IIT ecosystem. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi graced the 57th Convocation Ceremony of IIT Delhi today as Chief Guest, felicitating thousands of graduating students.

He also spoke about India's growing technological confidence, pointing to the semiconductor industry as proof, stating that despite early doubts, production has already begun at India's very first semiconductor unit, and expressing full confidence that everything from chips to ships will one day be manufactured in India, driven by the nation's own expertise.

The Ministry of Education highlighted that the Prime Minister spoke of India entering new frontiers, spotlighting sectors like AI, data centres, critical minerals, deep-sea exploration, and quantum computing as key to the nation's future, while reaffirming his faith in India's youth as the foremost architects of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Five pioneering scholars, Shubhra Kamal Nandi, Dr. Sumanta Laha, Juhi Srivastava, Anjali Jayakumar, and Aniruddha Das, form this historic first cohort. Launched in 2021, the programme gave scholars a truly global research journey, spending two years each at IIT Kharagpur and the University of Manchester, working on jointly defined research problems under globally renowned faculty. Together, the cohort has already produced 15+ high-impact research publications, with more on the way.

A 1997-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, Shri Dwivedi succeeds Shri Keshav Chandra, who moved on to serve as Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Government of India. Before this appointment, he served as Additional Secretary in the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), and earlier as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.

Shri Dwivedi has also been conferred with the Lieutenant Governor's Gold Medal for Integrity, Honesty & Meritorious Public Service, the highest award given to a civil servant in Jammu & Kashmir.

Jhandu is a scholar of the Para-Athlete Sports Scholarship Programme, run jointly by IIT Madras and SBI Foundation. Beyond financial support, the programme provides athletes with sports science evaluations, biomechanical assessments, and personalised nutrition guidance through Acrophase, helping them identify strengths, address gaps, and optimise their preparation for major competitions.

Commenting on the programme, Acrophase noted that this isn't just a scholarship; it's a long-term investment in India's para-sports future, built on the belief that world-class sports science should be accessible to every athlete, regardless of circumstance.

Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati has partnered with the Government of Andhra Pradesh's Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition (CoEET) and UNSW sydney to establish a Centre of Excellence for Solar Manufacturing at the institute.

The MoU was formally signed in the presence of Australia's Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs, Julian Hill MP, marking another milestone in the growing strategic partnership between Andhra Pradesh and Australia.

This Centre of Excellence will focus on advancing solar photovoltaic manufacturing, panel recycling, circular economy practices, technology commercialisation, and industry-driven research. It will also roll out specialised training programmes, executive education, faculty development initiatives, and international knowledge exchange, building a strong talent pipeline of engineers, researchers, and industry professionals for India's renewable energy sector.

UNSW Sydney, ranked among the world's top 20 universities and a global leader in solar photovoltaic research, will contribute expertise in solar cell manufacturing and reliability engineering, while IIT Tirupati will provide academic infrastructure and research collaboration.

Before this appointment, Prof. Chaudhuri served as Director of IIT Bombay from 2019 to 2024, and has been a Professor at IIT Bombay for over 35 years, leading pioneering work in computer vision, image processing, and multimedia systems.

Boxing led the charge with a record 10 medals, including 7 golds, the most won by any nation in the sport at a single Commonwealth Games.
