Our Story

PSBT is a unique and pioneering not-for-profit, non-governmental initiative, based in India, that works to empower independent documentary filmmakers, democratise access to the media and encourage the freedom of expression. It has supported, mentored and nurtured close to 500 independent voices and created over 700 documentary films on myriad themes and subjects, selected by professional juries at over 1820 film festivals worldwide, winning more than 312 Awards. PSBT encourages the production of innovative documentary films and is committed to expanding the constituency of filmmakers within the genre, especially young and starting out talents. Our films celebrate the regional, geographic and linguistic diversity of a complex nation, attempting to enhance public discourses on socio-political realities while providing filmmakers the impetus to engage with their art, creativity, politics and philosophies.
