Hillel Israel is deeply pained by the Knesset bill to amend the Holy Places Law (which has passed in a preliminary vote), defining non-Orthodox Jewish prayer and practice at holy sites as “hillul” (desecration) and subject to legal penalty. As part of the world’s largest Jewish student movement, with a presence in 16 countries and guided by the motto “All Kinds of Jewish,” we stand firmly opposed to “Only the Chief Rabbinate Kind of Jewish” and to any legislation that narrows Jewish legitimacy to only one expression or authority.

We wish to reiterate to all our friends and family around the world, that our relationship with global Jewry is not merely strategic — it is sacred. We respect all ways of Being Jewish, Acting Jewish, Feeling Jewish and Celebrating Jewish. The strength of the Jewish People has always rested in its diversity of voices, traditions, and expressions.

We will continue to educate and advocate for a Jewish public sphere in which every Jew — whether at the Kotel, anywhere in our shared homeland, or around the world — is welcomed and encouraged to practice Judaism in ways that are meaningful and relevant to them.

The Jewish future depends not on narrowing the tent, but on widening it.

Congratulations to Tel-Hai University of Kiryat Shmona on officially receiving university status! This exciting milestone is especially meaningful for the Upper Galilee region.

As highlighted in The Jerusalem Post, Tel-Hai’s community faced extraordinary hardships during the war, including displacement of students and staff, evacuation of campus facilities, and adaptation to remote learning. Yet, the institution remained steadfast in its academic mission and regional role. This new status reflects Tel-Hai's academic excellence, innovation, and commitment to shaping Israel’s next generation of leaders.

We’re especially proud that Hillel Tel-Hai serves as a vibrant home for Jewish student life on campus, creating meaningful opportunities for students to explore, celebrate, and strengthen their Jewish identities.
