Yad LaKashish Lifeline for the Old - יד לקשיש

Yad LaKashish Lifeline for the Old - יד לקשיש Yad LaKashish is a non-profit empowering and supporting nearly 300 elderly Jerusalem residents on a daily basis.

Yad LaKashish is a non-profit organization which provides hundreds of Jerusalem's needy elderly with creative work opportunities & crucial support services, helping them to feel part of Israeli society & boosting their sense of purpose & self worth. We providing them with community and creative work opportunities in our artistic workshops. Our mission is to empower needy elderly people, to renew

their sense of purpose and self-worth, to enable them to feel like valued, integrated members of Israeli society, and to spread the value of respect for the elderly far and wide. By teaching them to make beautiful handmade craft and Judaica items which are subsequently sold in our onsite gift shop as well as providing a range of support services, Yad LaKashish instills our elderly with a sense of dignity, community and self-sufficiency. We welcome visitors of all ages to meet our elderly in an attempt to create a new generation of advocates for the aged. Yad LaKashish/Lifeline for the Old has helped thousands of elderly since it was established in 1962, by implementing the highest degree of tzedakah - helping people help themselves.

The workshops are open again! 💛

After being closed yesterday due to the ongoing war and Home Front Command guidelines, our artisans are back where they belong — creating, connecting, and sharing time together.

🎉 We’re coming to the US! ✈️🕎

Yad LaKashish will be exhibiting at the Biennial of the Union for Reform Judaism in Philadelphia and we would love to connect with more communities while we’re in the area.

Do you know of any holiday fairs, synagogue events, or community programs happening in the tri-state area just before Chanukah? We would be so grateful for any recommendations, introductions, or connections!

Looking forward to seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and sharing the beautiful work of our elderly artisans. 💙

Meet Yosef! ❤️

Yosef, 88, a farmer from northern Ethiopia, immigrated to Israel in 2004.

Before joining Yad LaKashish in 2009, he never imagined becoming an artist. Today, he is part of our Paper Mache Workshop, where he handcrafts beautiful items such as pomegranates, chickens, and mobiles.

Sitting near the entrance to the workshop, Yosef is often one of the first artisans to warmly welcome visitors.

Coming on a group tour to Israel? Ask that Yad LaKashish be included in your itinerary! Meet our elderly artisans and experience the creativity, dignity, and community of Yad LaKashish firsthand.

Shabbat Shalom!

Spontaneous live music in our workshops always brightens the day! 🎶

This past February, we were honored to have Rabbi Deborah Bravo, Cantor Linor Ein Gedy, and Makom NY visit our elderly artisans. Our seniors loved dancing and singing along with them.

Moments like these remind us how powerful community and connection can be. Your ongoing friendship and support mean so much to our elderly artisans.

We look forward to more groups visiting us soon! To book a tour of our workshops:

Back to community. Back to purpose. Back to Yad LaKashish.

Our elderly artisans were so appreciative of the special breakfast celebrating their return to the workshops following the ceasefire with Iran, generously sponsored by David and Marilyn Carp.

The women of Yad LaKashish carry with them generations of stories, strength, creativity, and love.
This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the many roles they have played throughout their lives and the warmth and wisdom they continue to bring to our community each day.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Yad LaKashish. 💙

Diversity shines in our workshops, as elderly from Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America, and the Middle East gather to create beautiful art.

Over time, with the help of our workshop managers, who are themselves professional artists, our elderly have adapted their methods to meet their changing needs and abilities, resulting in a rich blend of craftsmanship and creativity.

As Avraham, 85 says: “What we do here at Yad LaKashish, it is almost magic. Here I have created relationships with people without the use of language. It’s a beautiful thing.”
