Yad LaKashish is a non-profit empowering and supporting nearly 300 elderly Jerusalem residents on a daily basis.

Yad LaKashish is a non-profit organization which provides hundreds of Jerusalem's needy elderly with creative work opportunities & crucial support services, helping them to feel part of Israeli society & boosting their sense of purpose & self worth. We providing them with community and creative work opportunities in our artistic workshops. Our mission is to empower needy elderly people, to renew their sense of purpose and self-worth, to enable them to feel like valued, integrated members of Israeli society, and to spread the value of respect for the elderly far and wide. By teaching them to make beautiful handmade craft and Judaica items which are subsequently sold in our onsite gift shop as well as providing a range of support services, Yad LaKashish instills our elderly with a sense of dignity, community and self-sufficiency. We welcome visitors of all ages to meet our elderly in an attempt to create a new generation of advocates for the aged. Yad LaKashish/Lifeline for the Old has helped thousands of elderly since it was established in 1962, by implementing the highest degree of tzedakah - helping people help themselves.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting the Jewish Community Centers of North America’s Leadership Program! ❤️

The group toured our workshops, meeting our elderly artisans and seeing firsthand the creativity, skill, and care that go into every handmade piece.

They also took part in our Chesed Project, preparing special packages for our elderly participants.

With group tours having been few and far between since the war began, visits like these are especially meaningful for our artisans, who take great pride in sharing their talents and showing others their work.

Preserving 2,000 pieces of Jewish history. 📖

For the past 20 years, Sagiv M., a book publisher and distributor from Rosh HaAyin, has built an extraordinary private collection of approximately 2,000 Jewish manuscripts from Yemen, all more than 200 years old.

It began with just two manuscripts he received from a friend. Fascinated by what he discovered, Sagiv began seeking out and purchasing manuscripts online, gradually building a remarkable collection and preserving an important part of Yemenite Jewish heritage.

Today, manuscripts from Sagiv’s collection are being given new life in the Yad LaKashish Bookbindery. Our elderly artisans carefully rebind each volume, protecting the fragile, aging pages and helping ensure these historic texts can be preserved for generations to come.

Through their skilled hands, our artisans are not only restoring books. They are helping safeguard Jewish history, one manuscript at a time.

Our Bookbindery repairs and restores books of all kinds for individuals and many organizations, including synagogues, yeshivas, and libraries.

Mark was 91 years old when he started working at Yad LaKashish.

Today, at 95, you'll find him in our Bookbindery, carefully restoring books and sharing stories with Russian-speaking visitors from around the world.

During a recent BBYO visit, one participant sat with Mark and heard about his life, including his years as a pilot in the Russian Air Force before immigrating to Israel.

At Yad LaKashish, every artisan brings a lifetime of experiences, and every visit is an opportunity to meet someone whose story may stay with you long after you leave.
