🎶 John Spillane is coming to Kilanerin! 🎶

Join us for an intimate evening of live music with acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter John Spillane at the Shamrock Hall.

Musician, songwriter, performer, storyteller and poet, the much-loved John Spillane will perform in Kilanerin for the first time, supported by local music group Black Stafford and Friends.

🏆 Not only County Champs… another big win for Kilanerin! 🥈

We’re thrilled to announce that Kilanerin Tidy Towns has won its first national medal — SILVER — at the SuperValu TidyTowns National Awards 2026! An incredible 24-point increase this year marks our biggest jump ever.

In our 21st year taking part, this medal represents two decades of work by local volunteers, in collaboration with local groups in particular the KBCDA, our school, businesses and the wider community. Every hour given and every helping hand has contributed to this special result. 💚

Our Chairman, Damien Meaney, and longstanding volunteer, Tony Doyle, were in Croke Park today, proudly representing everyone who has played a part over the years.

Some village for one village!! 🙌

We’ll be gathering in Murphy’s tonight from 7.30pm to celebrate. Come along and join us - everyone is welcome!

A huge thank you to Keith Boland of Chadwicks Sam Hire, Gorey, who sponsored the hiring of a tiller to prepare the ground at the 1798 Grove at Limbrick Crossroads for the planting of bluebells in the coming week.

Also thanks to our local Men’s Shed for doing this work. 1798 replica pikes made by the Men’s Shed will also go on display there soon.

⛏️ Update from the archaeological dig at Limbrick Crossroads

Week one of the excavation has now concluded and, thanks to the brilliant efforts of our volunteers over the past five days, a substantial ditch has been uncovered.

Early indications suggest that this feature could possibly date to the Late Neolithic or Bronze Age, meaning it may be almost 5,000 years old. While this is very exciting, archaeologists Barry and Dave have stressed that its age can only be confirmed through post-excavation environmental analysis and scientific dating. The excavation itself is just one part of the process.

The dig will continue next week, concluding on Friday, September 18th. We are also delighted that pupils from Kilanerin National School will visit the site, giving them an opportunity to experience archaeology first-hand and learn more about local history.

A huge thank you once again to all our volunteers, the D’Arcy family as landowners, the project team, and archaeologists Barry and Dave for sharing their knowledge and expertise.

KILANERIN’S FIRST ARCHAEOLOGICAL DIG BEGINS NEXT WEEK!

After two years of planning by a dedicated group of local volunteers - including Conor Murphy, Peter O’Connor, Dave Williams and many others - an archaeological excavation will begin at Limbrick Crossroads next week.

The group has secured significant funding from Wexford County Council and, under the guidance of professional archaeologists, will undertake a two-week dig at the site.

The team hopes to uncover archaeological evidence that could help us learn more about the earliest history of the area. Recent surveys have identified possible Bronze Age or Iron Age enclosures, potentially dating back between 2,000 and 4,000 years.

It is amazing to see this ambitious community project coming to life and to think about what might be discovered beneath our feet. Congratulations to everyone involved, and many thanks to all who have played a part - particularly the local farmers and landowners whose support has helped make the project possible.

Registration for volunteers has now closed, but we wanted to let the community know what is happening, particularly in case you notice additional activity around Limbrick Crossroads over the coming fortnight.
