💔 Remembering the one and only Dolly Parton 💔
The world says goodbye to a true musical legend. Dolly Parton passed away yesterday, August 25th, at the age of 80, following a brief battle with cancer.
From her humble beginnings in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, Dolly built a remarkable career that spanned more than six decades. She became one of the most beloved singer-songwriters of all time, giving us unforgettable songs such as “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You,” “Coat of Many Colors” and, of course, “9 to 5.” Her music crossed generations and borders, bringing joy to millions of people around the world.
Dolly was so much more than a country music star. She was an actress, songwriter, performer, businesswoman and philanthropist, but above all, she was someone who brought kindness, laughter and hope wherever she went. Her generosity, including her Imagination Library, has touched the lives of countless children around the world.
For Avonmore Musical Society, Dolly holds a particularly special place in our hearts. Back in April 2019, Avonmore Musical staged “9 to 5 The Musical” as our 40th anniversary production, celebrating Dolly's wonderful music and the unforgettable characters and story she helped bring to life. The show ran from April 23rd to 27th and was a very special part of Avonmore's history.
Looking back on that production today makes it all the more poignant. We were privileged to perform her music, share her story and bring a little piece of Dolly's incredible talent to the stage here in Ireland.
Dolly Parton leaves behind a musical legacy that will never fade. Her songs will continue to be sung, her stories will continue to inspire, and her unmistakable voice will continue to bring happiness to generations yet to come.
Thank you, Dolly, for the music, the laughter, the kindness and the memories. You will be greatly missed, but your music will live on forever. ❤️🎶

After 18 years of Studio 55, this recognition means more than I can say.

Thank you to every student, family, performer, colleague and supporter who has been part of this journey. Every class, rehearsal, production, fundraiser, workshop and performance has helped shape Studio 55 into what it is today.

After years away, Avonmore Musical Society’s Dance Like the Stars is making its long-awaited return… and it’s set to be bigger, bolder and more spectacular than ever! 🌟🕺✨

Following the incredible success of our recent production of The Clockmaker’s Daughter, which received an amazing 7 AIMS Award nominations 🏆, we’re already looking ahead to our next production—and what better way to kick off our fundraising than by bringing back one of Arklow’s favourite events! ❤️

💃🕺 Watch local stars swap their day jobs for dancing shoes as they take to the ballroom floor in support of Avonmore Musical Society’s 2027 production.

✨ Produced and choreographed by award-winning dance educator Martina Lynch, this professionally staged spectacular promises dazzling choreography, incredible entertainment, plenty of laughs, a touch of friendly rivalry and all the glitz and glamour you could wish for as our couples compete for the coveted Dance Like the Stars Trophy! 🏆🌟
