The Irish Red Cross branch have been selected as one of the Tier 2 beneficiaries for this year's Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle on the Fourth of July. We have been associated with the charity venture since it's foundation as part of the medical plan which keeps everyone safe. Now can be the opportunity for you to show your support for us.

Our June photos earlier this week of the Irish Red Cross First Aid Manual from the1970's evoked a lot of memories for some of our viewers.
Among the responses that we received was a photo of the training manual that preceeded the 1970's book.
It was in fact the British Red Cross First Aid manual, which was used in Ireland back then. Interestingly, there is no mention of CPR back then, but it does have another form of called 'Eve's Rocking Method of Artificial Respiration'😀.
We also received photos of other First Aid manuals which were used over the years, along with 'Caring for the Sick' and Civil Defence manuals.
Anyone remember any of these books, or know who 'Eve' was?

It was a wonderful day for the Irish Red Cross unit at the Half on the Head (Kerryhead Half Marathon) today. Elaine and Jason were snapped in the sunshine and the views of the wild Atlantic was spectacular. Congratulations to all the participants and a big thank you to our crew for their voluntary work. 👏

Therapeutic Hand Care massage provides comfort, relaxation, and companionship through hand massage and manicure treatments.
It involves gentle hand massage and manicure treatments delivered by trained volunteers.
The massage helps ease stiffness, reduce discomfort, and improve flexibility and suppleness.
The manicure can boost morale, especially for those who may have lost interest in their appearance during illness.
Most importantly, the service offers time, care, and human connection through touch.
Interested? Register by this Thursday, June 11th for a Therapeutic Hand Care on Saturday, June 27th between 9.30am and 4.30pm at St John's Parish Centre . It is hoped to establish a Therapeutic Hand Care massage service for Tralee in the near future.

Our June photo this month goes back to the 1970's, at least. It's a copy of the Irish Red Cross First Aid Manual, and folks, things have changed a lot from way back then.
We notice that there were four types of Artificial Respiration taught to our back then. Mouth to Mouth (also called the Kiss of Life), Holger-Nelson, Silvester and Schaffer methods.
In contrast, Cardiac Massage (as Chest Compressions were known back then), had only a single paragraph to cover what is now the mainstay of pre hospital emergency care.
Anyone out there remember learning any, or all, of those resuscitation methods, let us know.

Last weekend it was the Di**le Way Challenge for the of the Irish Red Cross First Aid and Ambulance Unit and this weekend it was back West Kerry again, this time for the Di**le Adventure Race.
Big thanks to our members who gave up their free time for this. Well done to all involved 👏
