Thank you to Killarney Cycling Club who are encouraging cyclists of all fitness levels to take part in support of their chosen charity, Comfort for Chemo Kerry. The 2026 event will feature two new routes designed to highlight the scenery of the county. Riders can choose the 100km Challenge, which is an epic route for experienced cyclists through Glencar, taking in the Bealaghbeama Gap and returning via Moll’s Gap.
Alternatively, there is an 80km option around Caragh Lake. This is a more accessible route intended for those building their fitness ahead of the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle. Both routes offer significant views and plenty of support along the way, with the day finishing with a celebratory BBQ at the Killarney Racecourse. For those who prefer a shorter distance, a family-friendly route will also start and finish at the Racecourse to ensure the wider community can participate.
We are thrilled to be beneficiary

The event starts at Killarney Racecourse at 9.30am on June 6. Participants can find further information and the link for online registration at www.killarneycyclingclub.com/three-peaks-challenge.

Huge news for Kerry!!

I’m really pleased to confirm that a new Chemotherapy Day Unit / Oncology Unit will be built on the grounds of University Hospital Kerry as part of the planned 96-bed block development.

This is something I’ve been working on since I was first elected in 2019, it’s really fantastic to see real progress and clarity on how it’s going to be delivered.

A few really important points:

✔️ It’ll be located on the ground floor
✔️ There’ll be a separate, dedicated entrance for patients
✔️ It’s now part of a major new development on the UHK campus

I’m also proud to be involved with Comfort for Chemo Kerry, who’ve been strong advocates for this every step of the way. And a massive thanks also to everyone at UHK who have backed this project from the start.
On a personal level, this one means a lot to me. I was a service user in UHK back in 2013, so I know how important it is for people to have access to high-quality cancer care close to home.

There’s still work ahead—but this is a really positive step forward, and I’ll be keeping the pressure on to see it delivered.

Quiz Night Raises Over €2,500 for Kerry Charities

A lively fundraising quiz night held at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club last Friday evening was a resounding success, generating more than €2,500 for two deserving Kerry charities - the Kerry Hospice Foundation and Comfort for Chemo Kerry.
The event attracted 37 teams, with a fantastic atmosphere on the night and strong support from both club members and the wider local community. Funds were raised through team entries, a raffle, and spot prizes, all of which contributed to a lively and enjoyable evening for everyone involved.
The organisers would like to acknowledge the work of the Truffle Honey Catering team and Killarney Golf and Fishing Club, with special thanks to Louise, Ciara and Collette and Quiz Master David O’Donoghue for their support on the night. Appreciation is also extended to Tracy, who sourced sponsorship for the spot prizes, and to Daisy and Jake, who helped by selling raffle tickets and collecting answer sheets throughout the evening.
All funds raised will go directly to supporting the vital work carried out by Kerry Hospice Foundation and Comfort for Chemo Kerry, both of which provide essential services to individuals and families across the county.
The organisers wish to thank everyone who took part, donated prizes, or supported the event in any way.

Cancer cannot wait.

If you have been affected by cancer delays and want to share your experience, please get in touch.

This week, yet more data has revealed cancer patients and their families are left waiting for life-saving cancer treatment beyond the Government's own recommended timeframes.

According to the latest available data:

1,356 patients did not start their chemotherapy on time.
1,448 patients did not start their radiation therapy on time.
455 patients did not have their breast cancer surgery on time.
104 patients did not have their lung cancer surgery on time.
377 patients did not have their prostate cancer surgery on time.

Behind each and every statistic lies a patient and their loved ones.

At the Irish Cancer Society, we will continue to highlight the post-code lottery facing patients acorss the country and call for:

Greater investment in cancer care staffing
Investment in upgrading aging equipment
Capital investment across hospitals and communities bring cancer care closer to patients

We want to bring the patient voice and experience to decision makers and to do that, we need to hear from you.

If you have been affected by delays, contact us by DM or visit https://brnw.ch/21wZJeB.
