🎒 Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance 2026

Did you know?
The Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance is now open, and for the first time, eligible children aged 2 and 3 are now included.

This year the payment is:

👟 €160 for eligible children aged 2 to 11

📚 €285 for eligible children aged 12 to 22

The scheme opened on 3 June 2026 and applications close on 30 September 2026. Many families will receive the payment automatically, but if you do not receive a notification and think you may qualify, you can apply through MyWelfare.

I was back in the North Side this morning delivering the first of two sessions for Sligo Leitrim Home Youth Liaison Service with Young Parents support programme.

We looked at home safety, prevention being the number 1 message, ways to child proof your home, avoiding accidents. We then looked at what we would do if there was an accident. 🏥

We talked about balancing risky play and not wrapping our little ones in cotton wool. Being practical, along with risk assessing.

There were lots of great questions asked, some parents reported feeling worried about accidents. We discussed this and how we can't allow ourselves to over think and just plan well for a safe home and prevention.

We will continue next week with part 2. As you see this session was for parents with little ones, and we had a safe area for them to sit and play beside the parents.
