Our 2015 (U11) team finished the season in style today with a climb of Knocknarea to mark the end of our Every Day in May Challenge! ⛰️💙💛

It was fantastic to see such an incredible turnout from players, families and coaches. The challenge was about much more than getting active every day — it was about commitment, teamwork, friendship and spending time together outside of football. 🙌

A huge thank you to everyone who took part, supported and encouraged the boys throughout the month. The final climb was a brilliant team-bonding experience and the perfect way to round off a fantastic season. ⚽💪

Well done to all involved — a great achievement by a great group of players and families! 👏💙💛

The final whistle has blown for our 2008 lads (U18) on their underage Football journey last week in MacSharry Park, where they played their final league game before lifting their 5th consecutive “A” League title and completing a 3rd straight League & Cup double. A mention too for Jack, who once again picked up the league’s top scorer award on the night also.

This was a fitting end for an exceptional group. While the success on the pitch speaks for itself, it was never just about trophies or accolades. From day one, the priority was simple: create an environment where players could improve, be challenged, and enjoy their football.

One of the greatest rewards for coaches has been watching players progress — earning selection for Sligo/Leitrim squads, Kennedy Cup panels, and moving on to National League clubs like Sligo Rovers, Longford Town, and Mayo FC. Also seeing two of our own play key roles in Connacht’s recent FAI All-Ireland Youth Interprovincial success in Galway, shows the standard and character within this group.
Losing players was never easy, but it created opportunities — and this group never let standards slip.

There have been countless memories along the way — from early futsal sessions at U8/U10, Christmas tournaments, Joe Davy Summer Cups, “beat the parents” games, turkey trots, marathons, countless bus trips and an unforgettable Barcelona Cup 5-day trip in 2023 with 45 players and supporters. Also watching so many of these lads step up and contribute at senior level already.

While trophies weren’t the focus, they do reflect the work, effort, and standards maintained over the years — and this group’s record is exceptional:

U11 - U12C League Winners
U12 - Covid so season did not finish
U13 - Short season due to Covid. U13A League Runners-up
U14 - U14A League Winners
U15 - U15A League Winners
U16 - U16A League Winners
U16 Cup Winners
Team this season also reached final 8 in Ireland of U16 FAI Trophy, Runners-Up in the U16 Connaught Shield plus a very strong showing at the Barcelona Cup.

U17 - U17A League Winners
U17 Cup Winners
Also worthing mentioning that out U17B team also won the U17B league this season which was very pleasing.

U18 - U18A League Winners
U18 Cup Winners

That’s 8 from 8 local competitions in the last 5 years, and an overall record of 9 titles and 1 runners-up finish from 10 competitions — not easily achieved at any level.
As this chapter closes, we hope this is only the beginning, with many of these lads continuing their journey into senior football — ideally with St. John’s.

A huge thank you to:
• All involved in St. John’s underage and the senior team for their support
• The Sligo/Leitrim League for organising fixtures
• The referees across the years. Not an easy job.
• Local business sponsors and supporters
• VEO Sligo for all the match recordings. Great to have.
• The Blue Lagoon for the Wrap party last week
• And most importantly, the incredible families behind every player — your support made it all possible

To the players: on behalf of all coaches, past and present, it has been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be part of your journey and to watch you grow — not just as footballers, but as young men.
If you carry the same determination, drive, and attitude into life as you did on the pitch, you’ll go a long way.
Thanks for the memories, lads — and the very best of luck in everything that comes next.

Our U15 Girls Division 1 team have been involved in a very tight and exciting league, with the girls finishing level with Ballymote Celtic and Ballisodare United after the initial rounds.

The girls overcame Ballisodare in the semifinal playoff on 12 April. Jayda McKenna scored the equalising goal in a 1-1 draw, with Femi Osho making a vital save in the penalty shootout to ensure the girls moved on.

The final playoff final against Ballymote took place on 01 May in Cleveragh on a great evening for football. The large crowd in attendance were treated to the proverbial game of two halves, with both teams playing high quality football throughout.

St. John’s were dominant in the first half and scored after 12 minutes. Jayda McKenna got free in the Ballymote box and fed the ball through to Emily Boylan who calmly slotted the ball to the net.

Ballymote were a changed team after the break and put St. John’s under huge pressure for most of the second half. The St. John’s girls were resolute in defence and held out until 2 minutes from time, when Kate Howard made space for herself in the box and finished smartly to the corner of the net.

Unfortunately St. John’s missed their last penalty in the resulting penalty shootout, handing the league title to Ballymote Celtic.

Congratulations to Ballymote Celtic and thanks to the referee John Feeney for keeping the game flowing so well.

The St. John’s girls have continued to improve season after season and we are very proud of their efforts once again, having gone closer than ever to winning the Division 1 league. Most of the girls were also part of the U16 Division 2 winning team. Enjoy the break girls and we go again in the Autumn.

St John's are the U14 Div3 champions!!!

Level on points at the top of the league with Manorhamilton, it was all down to a playoff.
And what a playoff it was.
A few missed opportunities, and by half time we were 2 down.
But with a great display of resilience and some great football skills, the lads ran away with it. 4 goals for the Johns in the second half and an epic victory 4-3.
Congrats to the guys who have become such a enjoyable team to watch. Thanks to the coaches past and present who helped them develop.

Enjoy the summer, we're back for the Cup in September!

"U16 Div 3 League Champions!! What an end to a great and at the same time challenging season!! This team is made up of a core group of players who have been at the end of some hammerings over the years. We are talking about 12 to 15 goal losses. Up until last year we were winning 1 game a year. But even after a huge defeat, over a weekend, that core group kept showing up every Monday ready to go again. Slowly we improved and on Tuesday evening all that hard work and perseverance paid off after they beat Strand Celtic 2-0 to win the league and remain undefeated. Great job lads!! An inspiration for all. Enjoy the summer!!"

Congratulations to our St Johns F.C. U-16 Girls Team who were crowned Div 2 league champions yesterday evening in Ballisadare after winning their 7th consecutive game on the trot beating Yeats United 4-0. Team Captain Aimee Lynch was presented with the league Cup afterwards & all players received their winners medals. It was a typical display by the St Johns girls consistent with previous games. A solid defence coming away with another clean sheet coupled with some beautiful passing & playmaking skills in the midfield & down the flanks. Goals yesterday evening were a hat-trick by centre forward supreme Hayley Clancy & one by substitute Ella Morrison. Congratulations to Hayley also who finished league top scorer. As an old saying goes, strikers & goals win you matches but a good defence will win you the league comes to mind. Hope the girls enjoy the summer break to return refreshed for the new season. Well done again girls. You've done yourselves, your families & your Club proud 👏.
