Volunteering
There are a number of ways you can volunteer:

Newbridge Tidy Towns is always on the lookout for extra help and new volunteers. We are not looking for a big commitment – but if you think you have a couple of hours to assist each week, we would love to hear from you. We have volunteering opportunities with many outdoor tasks, but there are administrative / clerical / report writing or

research opportunities as well. If you can help by adopting an area 'Pick A Patch" and keeping that area managed & litter free we would appreciate it. Keep an eye on this page or our Twitter account for updates & planned events. Examples of projects which we undertake are:

Tree Planting / Maintenance;

Newbridge in Bloom;

Maintenance & enhancement projects in the Green Flag Liffey Linear Park;

National Spring Clean / General Clean-ups;

Planning / Administration;

Erecting & monitoring bird and bat boxes;

Submissions to Council Planning Proposals;

Your Residents Association will also be looking for help in the maintenance of your residential area and the approaches / entrances to your Estate. So if you have an interest in, or expertise or ideas for improving the appearance of our town, enhancing the public realm, or the facilities available to the towns residents or visitors please contact us at Newbridge Tidy Towns. Bee Highway

We are continuing to facilitate development of a Bee Highway along the towpath from the Watering Gates to the Strand.

Earlier this year we noted flowers such as Snowdrop, Grape Hyacinth, Organic Siberian Squill, Snakes Head Fritillary, Dandelions, Cuckoo Flower & more.

This week we have spotted Yellow Rattle, Daisy, Clovers, Oxeye Daisy, Vetches & based on last year’s blooms we await the appearance of Wild Marjoram, Dead Nettle, Greater Stitchwort, Feverfew, Yarrow, Bladder Campion & we hope loads more wildflowers.

There are 99 different types of bee in Ireland –
1 Species of Honey Bee
21 Species of Bumble Bee
77 Species of Solitary Bee

These patches are so we cut the area back once per annum in September in the meantime this area will be visited by Butterflies, Bees, Moths even some Damselflies were spotted including a female Banded Demoiselle (pictured) & many other pollinating insects.

Thanks to all the volunteers who commenced this work three years ago, and to those who have continued to manage this project.

Thanks to our volunteers who serviced the bins in the Liffey Linear Park on Bank Holiday Monday - a good haul for a bank holiday.

The park was quite busy over the weekend with wonderful June Fest Newbridge events including the Kildare Yarn Bombers, music events, yoga groups, art in the park, picnic in the park, the South Kildare Photography Club's exhibition of Vincent Brady's photographs & loads more.

Later on Monday we were delighted to participate in the Family Fun Day on Main Street here in Newbridge. This event organised by June Fest was a great success.

Our stand was visited by many people, some new volunteers have come on board. We also handed out a load of Biodiversity swatches which people can use to identify butterflies, trees, damselflies, dragonflies, bumblebees & loads more.

Thanks to our volunteers who represented Tidy Towns on the day.

Great fun was had by all at St. Mark's School Annual Duck Race at high-noon today in the

This event was organised as part of June Fest Newbridge & was wonderfully supported by a large crowd of onlookers & hopefully loads of tickets were sold.

We heard that the ducks were undergoing a rigorous training regime & it was noticeable that once released the ducks made their way at considerable speed heading towards the finish line at the bandstand, well most of them anyway …. I wonder where Duck 1,001 went off to the little devil….

Well done to those who organised this brilliant event!

Looking forward to next year's race already.

Newbridge In Bloom

Thanks to all who helped with installation of Newbridge In Bloom phase 1.

Folks are still working on installing the floral display & some areas will be addressed during the coming week.

Thanks again to Jer Delaney & his colleagues who have again planned, designed & provided a wonderful summer floral display.

Over the years the success of the summer in generating a warm & welcoming atmosphere has been the subject of much favourable comment, no doubt it will be similar this summer.

Floral displays have been positioned or are planned for positioning at:

The Naas Rd. & St. Conleth’s Bridge;
The Athgarvan Rd. / Military Rd. Junction;
Main St.
Georges St.
Market Square.
Edward St.
Moorefield Rd.
Military Rd.
Ballymany.

We will add a floral display to the Bandstand in the when the area is finished being used for the absolutely spectacular photographic display of the late Vincent Brady's photos of Newbridge in the late 70's & early 80's.

In a few weeks’ time we will be looking for volunteers to help with ongoing maintenance & dead-heading - so if you have an hour to help out later in June please get in touch.
